The Pigeon River gorge cuts East to West across the Smoky Mountains from North Carolina and into Tennessee, offering paddlers panoramic views of the Great Smoky Mountains while cooling off from the summer heat.

The Upper Pigeon River White Water Rafting trip is the most remarkable rafting experience in the Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville areas. A short 45 minute drive will land you at Big Creek Expeditions, where you and your group will make memories to last a lifetime while experiencing the Great Smoky Mountains the way they were intended to be enjoyed—in the great outdoors.

- Guests will then meet their personal guide and recieve the necessary equipment Including: life jacket, helmet and paddle.
- Not wheelchair accessible
- After your guide double-checks to make sure all equipment is fitted properly, guests then hop on our bus for a short 10-minute ride to the launching point for your trip.
- Not recommended for travelers with back problems
- No heart problems or other serious medical conditions
- Travelers should have a moderate physical fitness level
- This tour/activity will have a maximum of 100 travelers

My husband and I went on a white water rafting adventure today on the upper pigeon river with our guide Steve… it was awesome!! It was definitely an adventure! Lots of fun, a little scary at times too which made for an unforgettable experience! Lots of laughs:) The rapids were such a thrill, at times, super peaceful and always so beautiful out in nature. Steve was an amazing guide and we definitely recommend him! Personable, professional, kind and informative! We give this company 5 stars all around - This was one of the best experiences of our honeymoon trip.Our guide Huey was kick ass! He ensured our safety, but made sure we had a great time. Will definitely be back!! If ever visiting Gatlinburg/pigeon forge area Big Creek expeditions is without a doubt the place for white water rafting!

We choose Big Creek for a first rafting experience with our grandchildren ages 9 & 14. We originally scheduled a float trip on the Lower (slower) section of the River because the 9 year old was nervous about rafting. When we arrived at check in the young woman at the desk talked to the 9 year old and convinced him to take the trip on the Upper Section where the rapids are class 3/4. Shane was our guide and he was excellent especially with the 9 year old. From the first rapid, everything was a go, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the ride. Shane was a wealth of knowledge about rafting, about the River and even some local history. This was just one adventure on a 10 day road trip. But in the end it was at the top of the list. Thank you Shane, and Thank you everyone at Big Creek.
