Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S-21) and Choeung Ek Killing Fields Tour
Overview
Chinese cemetery, the Khmer Rouge, lead by Pol Pot, turned the place into
what became known as the killing fields, where they executed around 2.000 prisoners. Over three years, they massacred and buried 2.5 million people. After remembering the dead, return to Phnom Penh to visit Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21). Meaning hill of the poisonous trees, Pol Pot turned a once popular high school into a high security prison. 20, 000 people were imprisoned there, many of whom were tortured for information. Today it serves as a museum and a reminder of darker days.

We managed to book onto this tour last minute on the day. Chanchesda was an excellent tour guide. Extremely knowledgable and was a perfect guide for such a somber tour destinations. Afterwards she was very helpful with tips and restaurants to recommend. The restaurant tip paid off and the traditional food was lovely. Overall couldn’t ask for a greater tour guide. It’s a shame we are leaving Phnom Penh tomorrow, otherwise would have booked her for further trips. This was a great although harrowing tour. The guide Baboon was so knowledgeable and friendly and happily answered any questions we had. Would highly recommend this tour to get a deeper understanding of this time in Cambodias history. Thank you Baboon!

We had Visal as our amazing tour guide. I would really recommend this tour. You learn the history of Cambodia and what happened at the killing fields. There are very few explanations in the S21 prison therefore we were really grateful we had Visal who could explain the stories behind the pictures and buildings. A very harrowing but important experience in order to learn about Cambodia and its history. We would not have been able to appreciate and understand what happened in the killing fields and S21 Prison without Visal. A must do if staying in Phnom Penh.
