Probably the best excursion we’ve ever booked! Melvin was a brilliant and knowledgeable tour guide who made sure we had the best day. There was a lot packed in but enough time was given at each part (the turtle conservation site, different beaches, starfish waters, snorkelling) so it didn’t feel rushed. Starting at 6am was a bit tough on holiday but DEFINITELY WORTH IT! The beaches on Saona island gets packed with tourists in the peak of the day but we were able to enjoy them with hardly anyone else around. The tour group is small - a maximum of 12 people, so it felt much more personal. The food that Melvin provided was delicious especially the grilled fish at lunchtime. There was wifi on the bus which was a nice touch. Melvin took lots of photos on his phone of the group and individuals/couples ans airdropped/whatsapped them to us on the bus home. Saona island was so so beautiful but one big tip - bring big repellent as there are a lot of mosquitos when you’re sitting on the beach. This excursion was a little bit more expensive than other Saona tours but it was worth it and I would recommend it to anyone looking to go to Saona.I cannot say enough about Melvin and the phenomenal sights and history he provided us. I cannot say enough about Melvin and the phenomenal sights and history he provided us. We only had 12 people on our tour which was perfect compared to some of the other ‘Saona Island excursions’ that shuttled 50-75 people on a catamaran. We were picked up at 6:30am (2nd to last pickup) and once we were all loaded, Melvin had us state our names and we all became ‘Familia’ for our trip. During the drive to the speed boat, Melvin provided us the history of the Dominican Republic and the surrounding islands and how they were established. Very interesting and educated me in history I did not know. Due to our small size and early departure, we were able to beat the crowds to Sonora Island and Melvin provided us with a private tour Mano Juan and then he shuttled us off to a spectacular private beach that I could not believe. We never felt rushed and Melvin would let us know how much time we were allowed and never had to gather us up. He provided a wonderful Dominican travel bar (I.E Big ass cooler) that was well stocked with Rum Drinks and cerveza. Breakfast was provided at Mano Juan Island which was sandwiches and fruit. Lunch was well prepared and we had chicken, pork chops, fish, potato salad (really nice) and slaws and salads – The trip also provides a private area with chairs for the group which you can move around to your liking. Again, the water was pristine at ALL locations we stopped – Next was a place where we got out of the boat and located starfish which we were able to hold (underwater) and take pics and sample the Dominican travel bar! Even though the price is higher than the other excursions to Soano Island, it was SO well worth it for the small size and private tours/beaches we were able to visit. We never felt rushed and was the most relaxing and tranquil island tour I’ve ever experienced. Our boat captain was really great and knew when to make the best of the waves. The captain and his assistance were extremely helpful when entering and leaving the boat (shallow water) and made sure everyone was safe and enjoying themselves. We took our trip on a Tuesday and was so impressed we were thinking about doing it again on Thursday but had other excursions we wanted to take. You ‘get what you pay for’ on most of the island excursions and I would gladly pay this price again as it was so worth the ‘non hassle’ of shuttling between boats and having to locate a calm spot once you were on the beach. Great Job Melvin and don’t change a thing about your tour. You did a spectacular job and look forward to seeing you again! This was definitely the highlight of our trip! Melvin, the guide, is truly the best. He takes you early before the crowds get there and you get to see places most others don’t get to see. You can tell he truly cares about you, the people of the island, and the wildlife.
