My Valparaiso and Viña del Mar tour was a group/shared tour but I happen to be the only guest so it practically turned into a private tour. My guide,Joseph and driver, Willy picked me up promptly. Due to unpredictable times at Santiago due to the current political unrest, we aimed to return to Santiago at least an hour earlier about 3:30 pm. We headed to Valparaiso first, en route, Joseph enthusiastically gave me historical information of places we passed and Chile in general. He is knowledgeable and good at his job. He volunteered to take my pictures during the tour which is appreciated. Valparaiso is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to the colorful homes and street art filled streets. We walked through the most interesting areas. It was any photographer’s delight for sure. We drove next to Viña del Mar and after stopping at the Flower Clock, we went to a Restaurante Los Pomairinos for lunch. The meal was good. I ordered a grilled Reinta fish, rice and a pisco sour. Prices seemed reasonable until I was asked what sauce to add to the fish, I went for the waiter’s recommendation of Creamy Fish sauce. I thought this was part of the fish order. Only to find out later it was an additional US$7 charge. A simple lunch meal cost me close to US$30 later on. Viewed the menu of another restaurant (Onces Brighton) in Valparaiso with amazing views of the sea and they gave lunch specials that included a drink/pisco sour, entree and dessert and it was less than US$14.00. Only disappointing part of the tour was the overpriced restaurant.Willy was a great guide. Friendly and informative. Valparaíso was really lovely. Could have spent longer wandering the streets. Good value.
