We were in Carrara in January, so we didn't have trouble booking this tour :) My two colleagues and I toured with Gabriele, who was so knowledgeable and so funny. I am a bit afraid of heights, and I get car sick, so the trip up to the quarries was a bit difficult for me personally, but everything I saw and everything I learned was incredible. I definitely recommend this tour for all of the thrill-seekers and others like me that just want to know how things work. Super impressive, stunning views, and just a lot of fun in general! We loved the whole thing. We loved the whole thing. Gabriele was accommodating as we reserved months in advance but no others had signed up a week before our visit. We were going anyway and he made it happen. Others must have signed up in the last week as the Jeep was full. We had Heike as our driver who was so enjoyable and knowledgeable. Both were fun to listen too and wow can they drive. The hills- the curves- the heights. All of it was scary and exciting. This was truly one of our highlights on our trip. The caves were a treat to go into and the stories they both shared were great. We learned so Marble, history and the city of Carrara. Highly recommended if you are in the area or even close by. Make the effort to go. Thank you Gabriele and Heike for a great day. We even got to go for Lardo! We were taken up into the Carrara marble mines by our guide Gabriele, who was very knowledgeable on the area and the mines. We were taken up into the Carrara marble mines by our guide Gabriele, who was very knowledgeable on the area and the mines. He took us in a jeep higher and higher into the mountains - and when we thought we couldn't go higher we did. The mines are mind blowing and looking back down at the road and pits one could mistake it for another planet. We visited on a wet rainy day which added to the air of mystery - although I suspect visiting on a sunny day is more pleasant and would allow visitors a spectacular view of the area. It was a very enjoyable tour and highly recommended. What a great tour. Our guide Gabriele was incredibally knowledgable, engaging and witty. The Land Rover ride (it is not a #@%^&*!) jeep was incredible, A bit unerving with the steepness of the grade but incredible views await. We went on a Sunday when the quarry was closed so we could hear the whole history from Gabriele on our various stops at multiple quarries. One of the best tours I have been on. You will NOT be disappointed. Carrara lard was also deliciousThree of us took the 2.5 hour private tour and it was fantastic. Our Guide (Heike) was very interesting and entertaining. Three of us took the 2.5 hour private tour and it was fantastic. Our Guide (Heike) was very interesting and entertaining. We loved riding up into the quarries in the Range Rover and seeing all aspects of the marble quarries. We took the early morning tour and got to see the quarry men setting up and cutting the huge blocks of granite as well as the huge "chain saws" squaring up the blocks. We even rode down into one of tunnels where they were cutting marble. This tour was one of the highlights of our vacation to Italy. It was a great adventure that we will never forget.
