With over 6 million annual visitors, the Vatican Museums are one of the most-popular attractions in Rome. Established by Pope Julius II during the sixteenth century, it houses thousands of works of art.
The origins of these museums go back to 1503, the year in which the recently named Pope Julius II donated his private collection. Since that moment private families and other popes have enlarged the collection of the museums to the point where it has become one of the largest in the world.
At present, the Vatican Museums receive more than 6 million visitors annually, although without doubt, one of the reasons for this is that they form the entrance to the Sistine Chapel.
Duration: 3 hours
Stop At: Sistine Chapel, Viale Vaticano, 00165 Vatican City Italy
The Sistine Chapel is one of the greatest treasures of the Vatican City, of Rome and of the world in general. It is known as much for its decoration, as for being the temple in which popes are chosen and crowned.
The construction of the building was carried out between 1473 and 1481 during the mandate of Pope Sixtus IV, to whom it owes its current name. The architect responsible for the construction was Giovanni of Dolci and it is the only work that he is remembered for.
What grabs the attention in the Sistine Chapel is not its architecture, but the frescoes that completely cover the walls and the ceiling. Some of the most important artists who worked in the chapel are Botticelli, Perugino, Luca and Michelangelo.
Duration: 10 minutes
Stop At: St. Peter's Basilica, Piazza San Pietro, 00120 Vatican City Italy

Better late than never, but I really wanted to write a review for this company that provided an incredible day in Rome for me! For the first time in my life, I was going to Europe, taking a transatlantic cruise from Rome back to Ft. Lauderdale. The kicker…I was going by myself and I was flying out on October 30th, landing in Rome at around 8:30 am on the 31st. I was boarding the ship on November 1st so I would only have the 31st to take in the sights of Rome (a place I’ve wanted to visit since I was a little girl). I read everything I could online to try and decide how I would spend my time there from a DIY trip around town via HOHO buses to joining in with a tour of some kind. I finally decided, after reading post upon post about how great Rome In Limo was, to reach out to them. Yes, it may have cost a bit more than other options, but I decided if I’m going to do this, I wanted it to be a day to remember. I emailed Jany and she promptly wrote me back suggesting I try the “Rome in a Day.” I told her unfortunately, I wasn’t arriving until 8:30 that morning but she said they could tailor the day for me and how about they meet me at my hotel at 11:30 am. I knew it was going to be a time crunch, not to mention jet lag, so I had to rule out going on a tour through the Colosseum (next trip 😉), but I knew I had to see the Vatican while there. I decided to go with one of their guides and she instructed me to buy my entrance ticket ahead of time, so now I was set! Before my trip, she again emailed to verify all information and to let me know my driver would meet me at my hotel at 11:30 am on October 31st. I so appreciated the excellent communication provided by this company. It just reassured me that I had made the right decision in booking with Rome in Limo. I had a wonderful trip across the Atlantic, virtually no sleep, but once in Rome, I was excited and taking all the scenery in from the airport to my hotel in the center of Rome. I checked in, went downstairs at 11:25 and there, waving to me with a big smile on his face was Marco, my driver for the day. I jumped into the back of the beautiful Mercedes sedan and off we went! I felt comfortable with Marco from the very beginning and I said, show me everything…and he did! He took me to all the places I wanted to see and would either let me out and tell me where to walk/what to see, while circling around or would park and say, you must walk down this piazza, etc. It was a beautiful day, gorgeous blue skies and every time I would walk through a different area, I’d look back and there would be Marco, smiling and waving to me. I knew where he was, always. Prior to 2:00 pm Marco’s phone rang, and it was a call from the guide at the Vatican, just verifying where we were and where he would meet us. Again, fantastic communication! We pull up to the Vatican and there I meet Max! Let me tell you about Max….I think he was the mayor of the Vatican! Why…because everywhere we went, EVERYONE knew Max 😊. From the security guards to other guides, everyone would yell MAX when we walked by. This experience would not have been remotely as good if I’d just gone there by myself or with a group…it was Max and me. He sat me down as soon as we got inside (which only took less than 5 minutes), pulled out his iPad and started showing/telling me things I would see and the stories behind them. He not only was informative but very fun, witty and, well…I hit the jackpot that day! Think about walking through the museum where there are tapestries hanging. I probably would have looked at them and thought, that’s nice and kept on walking. Not with Max! He would position me in one part of the room and say, look at that one, what do you see? After I would comment he would take me to another part of the room to look back at the same tapestry and he’d say, now what do you see? Instead of the two people I’d seen before, now there were three! Little things like that you would never have noticed if not for having a guide! Because of everything he talked to me about, once we went into the Sistine Chapel where no talking or photography is allowed, I understood what I was seeing, and it made it so much more meaningful. Walking around the grounds and then into St. Peter’s Basilica, same thing. Pointing out things that I would never have noticed on my own. It was incredible! If you're lucky enough to get Max as a Vatican guide, you'll know what I mean! I finally said, OK, I'm done, and he took me back to meet Marco, and off we went again! Marco took me to the other places he felt I should see and the pictures I took that day were gorgeous! Finally, around 5:00 PM I was starting to hit a wall, so I said, time to go back to the hotel. By then, I felt like I had seen the city with two friends, not just guides. Marco and Max helped me exceed all expectations of what I had hoped to do/see in Rome. If you can have a perfect day, this was it! I know this was a long review but because of the many reviews I read before my trip, I felt like I needed to do the same. I’ve told all my friends that when in Rome (or in Italy), you MUST go with Rome in Limo! When I go back (not a question of if…but when), I will be using them again because it was money well spent and made for a perfect trip. Thank you so much to Jany, Marco and Max! You gave me my dream day in Rome! This was my second time using Rome in Limo. Jany and his team of drivers, guides and boat captains are all exceptional. I used them from Florence to Rome to Sorrento. This was my second time using Rome in Limo. Jany and his team of drivers, guides and boat captains are all exceptional. I used them from Florence to Rome to Sorrento. I booked them on eight tours and each one exceeded our expectations. They allowed us to use funds from the prior year and were incredibly responsive. I recommend this group to everyone I know who visits Italy. You will be treated with exceptional care. Excited to come back a third time. We were recommended to Rome in Limo by friend and we were not disappointed! We were collect from our hotel on time and felt very safe from the start. Our driver Piero was excellent very informative and acted as a guide. Nothing was too much trouble and because we had see some of the sights the day before we were able to squeeze in a trip to the Catacombs which is a must. Because of the present climate we are all living in it did mean we could view the Vatican without any waiting. We would highly recommend Rome in Limo and Jany who we booked through ensured we had a fantastic experience. We had an amazing time with Big Luca! This was our 1st trip to Rome and certainly wont be the last. We had Enrico pick us to start the day, and this guy is the best! He showed us sites around the city. Very knowledgeable he is. He got us to the Coliseum for our visit there, showed us some more site and set us up with a great little local restaurant for the best lasagna ever! He then passed us at the Vatican to Massimo who is as equally awesome, like he knows everyone in the Vatican... The knowledge he has on what we saw at the Vatican is amazing... Both of these gentlemen were professional, cordial, and friendly. It was a very personable tour for me and my gf and we will always remember that these guys made our experience in Rome 1st class... Ask for them, they wont disappoint!!!!Enrico and Marida were wonderful guides on our tour of Rome and the Vatican. Enrico and Marida were wonderful guides on our tour of Rome and the Vatican. We have never been to Rome before and we’re excited about seeing as much as we could in the two days we had, so we hired this tour for one of the days to take us around Rome. Enrico picked us up on time and immediately began showing us sites around Rome. Sometimes, he would drop us off at certain points telling us what to look for where to go and when to meet him back at the spot. It was amazing. His knowledge of the city is outstanding. We learned so much from him. When it was time for lunch, he made a reservation and dropped us off us off at a terrific local restaurant. It was small restaurant with excellent food, wine and service. After lunch he pick us up for and took us to the Vatican where Marida met us. Marida was so friendly and comfortable to be with and had such deep knowledge of the Vatican! We not only appreciated her knowledge, but her enthusiasm is contagious! Three hours sped by. We simply cannot say enough positive things about the day with Enrico and Marida. We highly recommend this service.
