A terrific experience visiting one of the most important historical sites for Australian’s. While the trip out to the peninsula from Istanbul is long, the experience of visiting the site exceeded our expectations. What made the trip so special was our guide Bulant. He was not only very friendly and a pleasure to travel with, he was an expert on the Gallipoli campaign. His 20 years of experience talking about Gallipoli came shining through at every spot. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of his tour was his ability to share both the ANZAC and Turkish perspective of the battles and how they have formed the respective National identities. We would love to return and spend another day with Bulant learning more about Gallipoli and it’s tales.I highly recommend this tour. Approximately four hours to and from Istanbul. I highly recommend this tour. Approximately four hours to and from Istanbul. Aly, our a.m. driver, was highly skilled as well as patient with passengers who were not ready and delayed the journey, as well as with passengers who subsequently snapped at him for being late. Caution: Delays will snarl the van in Istanbul traffic, causing considerable tardiness. BE PUNCTUAL and ready at the hotel's front door for pickup. P.M. driver was also highly skilled, punctual, and helpful. Behlent, our guide, gave us a thorough, articulate, fascinating account of the Gallipoli campaign at several crucial sites: Anzac Cove, North Beach, Lone Pine, and Chumrun Bair (sp). Delicious, simple lunch. A long day, but unforgettable.
