Northern Lights and Stargazing:Small Group Tour with Local Guides from Reykjavik
Overview
We pick you up and whisk you away from the city lights to where we predict the best sightings according to the cloud forecast. Our small tour group allows us to get off the beaten path and away from the crowds to enjoy the Northern Lights in serenity.*
Stargazing with telescope
While waiting for the lights we use our powerful stargazing telescope to explore crude details of the planets in our solar system and deep space phenomena lightyears away. We take photos of everyone under the lights, for free.

Seeing the Northern lights has been on the proverbial bucket list for decades. We were successful thanks to Happy World lead by Ástþór and Kristjána. The week we traveled, Nov 28 through Dec 3 offered difficult weather conditions with rain and cloud cover. The guides did an amazing job find the lights and teach the small group about how to locate them. It's true if the conditions are great you can see the lights on your own, we weren't so lucky, so having a guide made all the difference. We loved the star gazing too, it was just spectacular to see such a big sky .Astpor is a great guide with a wealth of knowledge about the constellations. Kristana was the NL man, seeming coaxing the lady out for a visit. We watched so many other tours leave in the distance, and were grateful to be with Happy World. We loved the small group atmosphere and enjoyed great conversations. Not to mention the interaction with guides. Best hot chocolate ever! Just remember you're going to be out late, don't wear jeans and hand or toe warmers can be a great addition if you're not used to the cold. Well worth it.If you are passionate about seeing the Northern lights this is definitely the best tour to do. If you are passionate about seeing the Northern lights this is definitely the best tour to do. I am so glad we paid more than the other tour companies to do this tour as it was 100% worth it. My dad’s bucket list dream was to see the northern lights & these guys do everything to provide the ultimate northern lights experience. It’s a small group, there was 9 in our group with 2 guides. They take your pictures so not only do you have the best experience you come home with the best photos. These photos are priceless for me & my dad & I will treasure them forever. The hot chocolate is yummy & the stories they share are great. They also only take you out if you are pretty much guaranteed to see the northern lights. We moved position once by driving 20 mins somewhere else & got the most magical experience. The best money I have ever spent, I will treasure these memories forever. If you really want to see the northern lights these guys are so passionate about the northern lights, Iceland & their passion & excitement rubs off on everyone. Wear lots of layers, take hand warmers from home, I had a cover over my lap in car so I was super toasty. Our first day in Iceland (20th December 2021) could not finish better. It was so foggy in Reykjavik that I never thought that I could just write off one of my dreams in my bucket list. But Happy World just advises with a GO because of the good forecast, satellites etc. I never could done this by myself. Ástþór was de best guide, the car was amazing (huge) and very warm and comfortable. We saw the aurora just when we left the fog behind, a light one only visible thought the camera. Ástþór helped me with the exposition as I wanted to take my own photos. In any case he took us as many photos as we wanted. When other tours started to arrive he took us to another close location in order to be alone and have the better experience. It was really cold. And when it seemed that we already have seen the Aurora, although not really with naked eyes, and we could come back, Ástþór said : we should wait until at least midnight, the golden hour that is when statistically we have more chances. In meantime he was showing us the stars.... And suddenly...boom! Her majesty Aurora borealis appeared crossing all the sky and dancing for us. We saw bright greens and even reds and yellows. I am so grateful to have choose Happy Worls and Ástþór as it was a perfect experience. So emotional for me. And it finished with a shot, hot chocolate and Kleinas. Maybe Happy World is more expensive than other tours but small groups, comfortable cars, experienced guide, some extras etc makes the experience absolutely incredible and worth it.They picked us up from cross roads one block from our hotel in the evening. They picked us up from cross roads one block from our hotel in the evening. There were about 7 of us in the Super Jeep all bundled up ready to go. We made a short stop to go to the bathroom in a really cool local museum (it's on my list to visit next time!), then we were off headed towards our spot to search for the Northern Lights. We waited for about three hours and just when we thought we were going home with only seeing stars so bright my iPhone 11 could pick them up, the famous light show started to dance right before our eyes. The green and yellow lights were striped across the sky. We saw mostly green and yellow waves, with some blues as the hour progressed. They gave us a pastry, hot chocolate, and a local l'chiam! They took our picture and a group picture and emailed them to us. We highly recommend putting pocket warmers in your shoes and pockets before you step out of the jeep and wait in the freezing cold air. We highly recommend this group as it gave us all we wanted: friendly and informative guides, a warm treat, photos with their amazing camera, and the light show that brought us to see this beautiful country in the first place! If you're wanting to have a change at seeing the NLs, this is the tour. If you're wanting to have a change at seeing the NLs, this is the tour. Þröstur Freyr was extremely knowledgeable, answered all our questions about the lights, the stars, the planets, solar activity etc, and even rather expertly set up his scope for us to observe jupiter and saturn in the night sky (which was an unexpected, but very lovely surprise). He knew a great little spot (which we won't disclose to avoid spoilers), came super equipped with stories, snacks and hot drinks, and in general, made a very cold 4 hours fly by, and feel like 5 minutes. 5/5 Tour 5/5 Company Couldn't have been a friendlier or more helpful tourguide. Thanks Þröstur. Best Marilyn + Alex
