What to expect
Let’s explore over 20 different food stalls where the locals come for their dining out. Start with unique chicken coconut milk curry sauce grill on charcoal, named “Gai Kolae”, then try a yummy tiny Thai sausage with pork and preserved rice. Get surprised by a royal cuisine Thai coconut pancake”, Kanom Krok” that is created right in front of you.
Sit down to sample some Hoi Mok Pla in the banana leaf, a steamed curry fish, Southern style and more. At the end of the tour you will not leave without an incredible volcano roti pancake and “Cha Yen”, our Thai tea with milk.
End your marvelous day by watching the sunset while you eat some more local dishes along the Takuapa River. Relax and enjoy the slow life.

If you do any organised tour when visiting in Khao Lak, make it this one. Our guide, Wandee is a very knowledgeable local chef and teacher and really knows her way around the small local restaurants and kitchens. There is no way otherwise that we would have known that these places even existed. We visited a few establishments but the highlight was to have the experience of sitting in a small Takua Pa Old Town eatery while Mama created genuine and simply delicious local delicacies for us with Papa looked after their little niece... a simply magical taste of local life and culture... then off to finish the evening with cocktails at a very funky hidden local bar and restaurant. This tour was very special and highly recommended for anybody wanting to avoid the tourists and see the real Thailand.We had an amazing evening with Wandee on the food tasting tour. We had an amazing evening with Wandee on the food tasting tour. I wish we had more than one stomach! Everything was absolutely delicious, and Wandee was an awesome guide with heaps of information about the food, Thailand, and in general was awesome company. We had our three year old daughter with us and she adjusted the trip to suit our needs and ensured she advised when things might be too spicy. After dinner we enjoyed a walk across the iron bridge to digest some of our food, we watched the fireflies and a far away lightning storm from the bridge - it was a great way to end the evening. I highly recommend this tour, it's a great way to see a slice of local life, as well as get the inside track on the best dishes the region has to offer. Wandee is the perfect hostess. Wow! You won't be hungry after taking this tour! Wandee is such a great guide who knows all the right local food spots to take you to. Wandee had a chat to us about what style of Thai foods we both enjoyed and then took us to all of her favourite places, including a famous Pad Thai and a Michelin-recommended restaurant. Our tour finished with a trip to Takua Pa Old Town and a local coffee shop there for afternoon tea/coffee. It was quite an incredible town that looked like something straight out of a movie set. We were too full to make it to the last stop which was dessert (roti), which was a shame, but we'll save it for next time. I recommend maybe only having breakfast on the day of this tour as you will need to pack your appetite! Wandee and her driver picked us up from our hotel and dropped us back afterwards. All we had to do was sit back, relax and eat!A fabulous experience of local food. We tried numerous dishes and snacks. We were a family group and she was sensitive to our need for non spicy Thai food ( a contradiction in terms some might say) The setting is basic and rustic but perfectly appropriate for the style of food. We greatly enjoyed the fruits of our labour.We had a great time on our tour with Wandee. Enjoyed learning about the food and culture from a local. We went on a Sunday and the market was quiet but Wandee adjusted the tour to suit us to include a drive around the local farms as well.
