Stop At: Haro, Haro, La Rioja
We will visit a spectacular subterranean winery beneath a centuries old village in the beautiful Ebro Valley of the La Rioja wine country. This winery will include a 1 hour tour and 3 subsequent tastings of their premium wines only available to clients who visit this special winery.
Duration: 2 hours
Stop At: Samaniego, Samaniego, Province of Alava, Basque Country
Our next visits will be tasting experiences at boutique family-run wineries. We will have tastings of the most premium wines from their oldest vines. You will also get to sample their limited-quantity olive oil with fresh bread, cheese and chorizo.
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
Stop At: Laguardia, Laguardia, Province of Alava, Basque Country
We will then head to the 10th century village of Laguardia for lunch at a local restaurant or pintxo/tapas bar depending on your preference and appetite. After lunch, we will take a leisurely stroll through the beautiful town pointing out sites of interest. There is also amazing photo opportunities of the entirety of the beautiful Ebro Valley.

Stop At: Bodegas Marques de Riscal, Go to the bodega, not the hotel. Two different establishments that have nothing to do with one another, 01340 Elciego Spain
We will take you to see the Frank Gehry designed Hotel Marques de Riscal for photos and a walk through the vineyards.

Well what a fantastic trip. Despite the snow(!) Zach drove us safely to Rioja and shared lots of information.. We went to three very different wineries... The first was breathtaking.. Conde de Los Andes.. No expense had been spared in the restoration of a network of old cellars. Fantastic select...

Conde de Los Andes.. No expense had been spared in the restoration of a network of old cellars. Fantastic selection of tastings and an impressive tour. The second stop was a tasting of wine and the most delicious olive oil and finally a stop to a more rustic winery in the town of Laguardia. We then stopped for lunch and snoozed most of the drive back to Bilbao. An amazing day trip. I can't wait to do it all again.DittoD

We had to cancel several trips to Bilbao and tours with Zach and Irene due to the pandemic. They were always understanding and just let our deposit roll over. When finally found a window to travel to Bilbao, Zach helped us immensely recommending a hotel and moving the tours around, so we could visit Michelin Star restaurants when not touring with them. Our favorite tour was an evening of sampling Pintxos with Irene. Next was the VIP Rioja tour (maybe we thought these two were the best due to mass consumption of wine.) The other 3 tours we took were also five stars: The Art of Txakoli Tour (more wine), Western Coast of Bizkaia & Historical Village of Gernika Tour and Custom San Sebastian & Hondarribia Tour. They even backtracked one day and showed us views that we missed on a previous tour due to clouds. We are looking forward to coming back to Bilbao in May.jbachN

You have shown us the Basque hospitality. Zach and Irene are very passionate about what they’re doing and very proud to show the land of their home. I am very confident whether you want to spend 2, 3 or 5 days with them, you will love and appreciate them as much as Me. Do not hesitate to contact them if you like to have a Private Tour catering only to your need and family. This Rioja Wine tour is a Must if you are in the region, 3 different wineries in sizes and location are very interesting. At the first winery, we had the pleasure to talk directly to 1 of the owner and discovered her passion about making wine. At the second one, We are treated like Royalty with our names on the wine’s brochure and a special gift from the winery. The tasting room is so beautiful surrounding by many rows of barrels of wine. We had an amazing day with Zach on the connoisseur wine tour. Zach was friendly and knowledgeable and made us feel very welcome as we drove into the mountains from our pickup in Bilbao. We visited four wineries and had a fantastic lunch to help soak up all the samples. All the wineries spent time chatting to us about their wines and Zach was very accommodating as we stopped for photos and a look around some vineyards along the way. Highly recommended tour and a fantastic day out during our holiday. Zach also gave us some local recommendations for bars and restaurants; lovely day all round! Thanks Zach!
