In addition to our tour of San Sebastian, we also booked a Rioja tour with The Best of Basque. It did not disappoint! We had an excellent day with Zach, who gave us a great background on La Rioja. We visited 3 very different wineries, with tastings of both red and white wines. We we also really enjoyed seeing the medieval town of LaGuardia, and the spectacular views of the valley. Thanks again, and we will be sure to recommend to our friends!

Our tour turned out to be a private one with Jani and Gorka. Jani was so knowledgeable, nice and just an incredible person all around. The three bodegas we went to were all unique and all of the wine we sampled was incredible (we shipped some boxes home). The tour ended in a nice town (Laguardia) for some pintxos before heading back to Bilbao. I could not recommend this tour enough as it was one of the highlights of our trip. Amazing day spent exploring La Rioja! Jani was our wonderful tour guide and teacher. She is extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of the Basque Country and well versed in the La Rioja history and wine production practices. We had the most incredible experience with Zach exploring the Rioja Alavesa region! Zach introduced us to three phenomenal family-owned wineries, each steeped in rich history of winemaking. Walking through the medieval town of Laguardia, dating back to the 10th century, was a true step back in time. The vistas of the stunning mountain ranges bordering the valley were absolutely breathtaking. Zach's knowledge and passion for the area made the day truly unforgettable. If you want to delve deep into the wine culture and history of Rioja Alavesa, Zach is the perfect guide to make it happen!

Jani was an excellent guide. We got a brief history of Basque, an explanation of their wine country and customs. We discussed many things related to their customs and ours.

Jeni was great. The wineries we visited were lovely and her relationship with the owners and workers was a great benefit. Communication about the details of the tour was perfect and very unstressful. Highly recommended!

As you go through the tour, you get to learn about local traditions, places to visit, Basque food and authentic restaurants, and see some beautiful little towns. We started with this tour in mind, but ended up using the Best of Basque for all 5 days of our stay in Bilbao. We are from California and came specifically for a wine experience and spent 3 days in La Rioja- all tailored and guided by the Best of Basque. Our personal guide, Jani, was absolutely amazing! She provided a rich, local historical context to the entire experience rooted in her teaching background and love for Basque culture. We were also quite impressed with her love and knowledge of wine- we have toured other parts of the world for wine and found guides with less knowledge and enthusiasm for the wine tasting experience. Quite the contrary, she was such a joy to taste with, comparing notes and paring recommendations for small bites and other local cuisine. From planning to leaving, Jani and the Best of Basque Team gave us the BEST experience we could have hoped for and we are so grateful to have used their services for our entire trip.

This was a great tour, Jani was such a FABULOUS guide and very knowledgeable! From start to finish she prepped us with what to expect at each visit and what the different bottle labels meant. We visited 3 wineries and all though slightly different, were equally excellent. All the tour guides at these wineries were also enthusiastic about informing us of their particular wines. Jani was an amazingly friendly and passionate guide. I loved that she and her family are Basque. She was able to authentically share with us her experience growing up in Bilbao and efforts to preserve the culture and language today. We also learned a lot about La Rioja and visited three wonderful, intimate wineries as well as LaGuardia. And absolute 10 out of 10. She even gave us great recommendations for the rest of our trip. We had an amazing day trip from Bilbao visiting 3 wineries. Janire was an excellent host providing us with great knowledge on Basque history and the Rioja wine growing area. At the 3 wineries the wines tasted were excellent with each representative showing a passion for the wines, land and environment. Each winery supplied some delicious food too. We enjoyed the personal nature of the tour and Janire answered all of our questions. Lunch was taken in a beautiful medieval village. Highly recommended.

We had a private tour of three Rioja wineries. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, warm, and offered wonderful insights into Basque culture.

We had a wonderful day trip from Bilbao to Ysios and Marques De Riscal, the vineyards were beautiful! We also had an amazing guide, Janire who made the experience even more special. She was lovely, very engaging with a world of knowledge. The only comment I had would be the time frame of the visit, I think the tour needs to be more than 8 hours as our second vineyard tour only started at 3:30pm and we had to leave before the wine testing ended if we were to get back within the given time frame (luckily we had another engagement to attend so it all worked out). And Janire was super supportive and helpful in getting us back on time. All in all, highly recommend and a wonderful day out!

This tour was amazing as it offered not only an education on the wine in the region but an impressive history lesson about wine, the towns, and the local people. Each winery demonstrated a contagious passion about the land, the vines, and environment. We enjoyed the personal nature of the tour and Zack answered all of our questions.

We had a great day with Zach. It was easy to plan the entire day and set up a meeting point in Logrono. He replied to all of our questions quickly. The wineries he chose were amazing, especially the first one, Conde de los Andes. Touring the centuries old caves was the perfect start to the day. One member of our party is vegan and he made sure the wineries knew so they had food she could enjoy with the tastings. We drove to the viewpoint over Marques de Riscal, so we could see the hotel. We had lunch in Laguardia at a restaurant that had something for everyone. It was everything we wanted and so relaxing to just sit back, let Zach do the driving and leave the planning to him. He was also kind enough to provide some restaurant recommendations for our next two cities.

This trip was amazing and Irene was a fantastic hostess!! The countryside was beautiful and the wineries we visited were fantastic. I would highly recommend. We completely enjoyed our time.

The tour was a great start to our honeymoon! Irene was extremely sweet and knowledgeable. She went out of her way to make sure that my wife, who has celiac disease , was able to enjoy all of the food offerings that were provided at every stop. Couldn’t ask for a better tour or guide!
