What to expect
Galleria Borbonica is situated in Vico del Grottone 4, 100 meters from Plebiscito Square. Until a few years ago it was a veterinary laboratory, now this is the entrance of the Bourbon Tunnel. A staircase with 8 ramps, 33 yards deep descending into the belly of the Chiaia district in Naples. The second entry is in Via Domenico Morelli 40, through the crosswalk of 'Quick parking'.
The Bourbon Tunnel was built in 1853 by Ferdinand II of Bourbon, who, concerned about the outbreak of a rebellion, asked for an escape from the Royal Palace to the barrack in Via della Pace, now Via Morelli. The work was however not completed and, during the second World War, the Tunnel was used by residents of the area as a military hospital, later becoming the Hall Judicial Deposit. The war left its mark even in the subsoil.

Dario was a great guide. I would recommend it. The experience is really worth it. If you are in Naples you’ll learn lots and lots of interesting history about the city from Dario, who was a volunteer in the restauration process.

A must do in Naples... I discovered this tour via Trip Advisor and booked with Viator. We were on a cruise and wanted to do something interesting and the 'tunnels' are located within easy walking distance of the port. You learn a lot about the history of Naples whilst exploring these tunnels from their construction, use as air rail shelters during WWII and finally as a storage compound for impounded vehicles. This tour will interest all ages, the guides are young and passionate about their subject. Wholeheartedly recommended.Excellent tour with our guide Sabrina. Was very informative and had no idea that all that was under our feet. Especially the car dump!
