We visited Edfu and Kom Ombo Temples with Michael Samir and had a great experience. Michael is so passionate for Egyptian history and culture that he could point out such small but important details on the temples otherwise would have been missed. We became close friends so quickly because of his warm and genuine character. He went above and beyond and made phone calls on behalf of us for more than two hours so that everything was ready and in place at our next destination. We were able to enjoy the Nile cruise because of his understanding and problem solving ability.I selected this as my very first tour in Luxor. The views along the way are so picturesque. Once there, the temples and the statuary are breath taking. The whole tour was an enormous treat. Afterwards, buffet lunch at a local restaurant was delicious. An excellent choice! My guide Hani is the man!!!! The Edfu and Kom Ombo temples are absolutely amazing. My guide Hani is the man!!!! The Edfu and Kom Ombo temples are absolutely amazing. Hani does a superb job of explaining the rich history and culture responsible for building these very well preserved temples. It's definitely a long drive from Luxor to Edfu. Thankfully Emo tours contracts with great drivers and cars. During the drive you get to see the rural Nile farming life that has remained somewhat unchanged for thousands of years. These temples are typically visited by the Nile cruse ships meaning you will most likely be the only one at the temples as we were. Now the exciting twist...this tour was some how book with a oneway only travel to Aswan. To learn about this 1hr after we left Luxor made for a brief moment of panic wondering how I was going to return to Luxor after traveling almost 200k south. Hani was able to work this out and Emo tours and book a one way VIP train back to Luxor from Aswan with car transfer to the hotel. The bonus was to see Aswan which is a great city and to eat some tasty Alli Baba sandwichs Hani got at the train station for the 3hr journey back to Luxor. Overall great experience. What started off as a pleasant experience, turned out as a not-so-nice day. What started off as a pleasant experience, turned out as a not-so-nice day. At first, the guide (named Mina) welcomed us very nicely and started to share interesting information about the sites we were about to visit. He picked us up at our hotel in Luxor, and, since we were travelling with our two small kids (a 4-year old girl and a 1-year old baby girl), we told him he did NOT need to worry in case one of us had to run after them while he was guiding us inside the temple. We made it perfectly clear that we were used to this (we had been to 70 countries by now, like I said to him, we are experienced travellers, as are our kids). They are kids, after all, and we can't impose they stay put for explanations they do not understand. By the way, here we have another problem: we had booked a Portuguese-speaking guide, especifically for this tour because our 4-year-old is VERY INTERESTED in these stories. They sent us an English-speaking guide...so we had to keep translating everything to her (and the guide started to get pissed off when we did so, even though I had previously briefed him I would have to do it because he didn't speak Portuguese as we'd asked for when booking the tour). From there on, only bad times. He started looking us sideways, talking like a robot, and even didn't wait for us inside the temples when we stopped to take pictures (by the way, since the beggining, when he was still "being nice", he didn't LIKE to wait for us to take ANY PICTURES...he kept saying he would take a picture of us ONLY AT THE END....unbelievable). Another "detail": on our way to the temples, right at the start, he suggested we took a "desert road" instead of the touristy one, which was way faster and smoother, even though not permitted for tour guides. But he explained it was not dangerous, only they would have to pay something at the checkpoints if they were caught....He always pointed the times we had to go to the back of the car and close the curtains so the guards wouldn't see us. Anyway...we accepted gladly after he insisted on it being better for the kids. On our way from Kom Ombo to Edfu, he took a terrible road and all of us almost got sick inside the car...The driver was driving way too fast, and the road was bumpy, curvy...terrible! They saw my girls crying non stop (and also the both of us, adults, were getting very sick). We said to him that he could take THE SAME ROAD WE TOOK TO GET HERE now that we were returning to the hotel (way earlier than the estimated time, because he skipped sites saying they were simply closed, like the crocodile museum). What did he do? He said he had to check with the driver if he was WILLING to TAKE THE RISK of the SAME ROAD!!!! And then asked for MONEY TO DO SO, reaffirming it would be better for the girls! Seriouly...I don't even have words to describe a person who is willing to gain money over crying children. Well...to sum up everything, unfortunately, it was a terrible experience among many nice and forever lasting memories we had built with our children while travelling across the Middle East (Egypt was only the second stop on our 40-day trip around 7 countries). I hope you never have the "pleasure" of visiting these places with a guy like that (we had already booked and enjoyed another tour with the same company 2 days before on the West Bank and it was amazing because the guide was amazing: Mourad, what a wonderful guy!). Sadly, that's what I have to share about our visit to Kom Ombo (no crocodile museum) and Edfu Temple. Cheers!Great day in Luxor - Abdelrhman Ahmed was our tour guide or and Mamdoh was our driver both great and very kind, Abdelrhman was very knowledgeable and very great English. I would highly recommend this tour to anybody coming to Egypt.
