Cross-Country Ski Lesson for Beginners in Tromso
Overview
This trip is a skiing course, conducted in a scenic surrounding and relaxed atmosphere for the ones who have never tried cross country skiing before or still lack basic techniques.
We ski in flat terrain, mostly on prepared trails on the top of Tromsøya island, only 5 minutes drive from the city center.
At first we teach basic techniques and begin to ski in a flat area.
By the end of the tour you can challenge yourself on small hills and you should be able to practice your new skills on your own later on.
Inclusions
- Ski instructor
- Transport to and from Tromsø city centre
- Cross country ski, ski boots and ski poles
- Hot drink and lefse (a local sweet snack).
What to expect
Once in Norway you cannot leave without trying our national sport.
Now is your opportunity to learn to cross country ski in a scenic environment and relaxed atmosphere.
Our ski guide will teach you how to use the ski bindings to put the ski on and take them off, how to fall 'the right way' to avoid injuries, and how to get up on your own. You will then practice how to walk and run with skis.
After gaining some practice you will get the chance to challenge yourself on some small hills, learning the techniques of walking up and sliding down.
After the tour many of our guests rent skis to continue practicing cross country skiing on their own.
Great fun at all times!

I discovered that I am ok going uphill, but a very poor skier down hill! Sacha was a very good instructor giving enough encouragement to make sure I had a sense of achievement, but also was kind when he saw I wasn’t doing great! Was a great trip, but be prepared to ache afterwards!!!

A fantastic experience, Didi met us at the hotel where we changed into boots and we traveled up to the parkland at the top of Tromsø island. We had around an hour of beginners training and then off around the track. Around halfway we stopped for tea with a view and crossed the frozen lake. It was a great small group experience with Didi being extremely patient and informative. Would recommend to all. Definitely feels like an all body workout the next day! This was our first time skiing and we had such a great time. Sasha, the instructor, was super nice to us. He taught us all the techniques, was super patient and even took many photos and videos for us. We'll definitely take this tour again next time we visit Tromsø.

We then tried a little in the powder snow and aside the tracks which was harder than it seemed. The hot toddy and cake was a great halfway break! Our guide was lovely and really patient and a lot of fun.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time learning to ski cross-country style. Our group ranged from total beginners to some who had some skiing experience and our leader, Mathias, skillfully taught everyone at their level. We began simple and gradually picked up in difficulty, appropriate for each learner. Hot drink and snacks were very welcome half way through the session. A favourite was skiing down the slopes - exhilarating! Thank you Mathias for a wonderful afternoon!
