There were 6 of us on the tour led by Mike, a long time Alabama resident and father of Clay, the owner of Red Clay Tours. They have put together a thoughtful and well researched tour of the major civil rights sites in Birmingham. The tour consists of both a walking tour of and a driving tour (using their van). What we particularly liked was Mike’s ability to tell the stories of the major civil rights activists and their followers and the horrors and brutality they faced as they pursued their goals of equality and social justice. We learned a great deal and more fully appreciated the extraordinary efforts that were made to overcome the white hostility to integration in Birmingham. I highly recommend this tour. Our guide Mike was very knowledgeable and answered all questions we had. He even agreed to go around the block again so I could get a picture I had missed.

Shuttlesworth. Mike was a great tour guide and had a wealth of information at his fingertips.

It's a bus tour, but you get off the bus a few times, walk around and get a closer look at things. Mike made the Civil Rights issues of Birmingham come alive!
