It was incredible getting a tour of Hawai'i's Valley of the Kings (Waipi'o) from a genuine local, swimming in a waterfall, and climbing deep into a lava tube. Dreu's in-depth knowledge and personality made the trip top tier, though. The guy is an encyclopedia of all things Hawai'i — part naturalist, part anthropologist, part volcanologist, part historian. He also somehow seemed to know everyone we passed on the island! His friendliness, enthusiasm, and sense of humor kept everyone in a great mood. Many thanks to Derek & Forest for a great tour and adventure. Many thanks to Derek & Forest for a great tour and adventure. This trip was for any skill level, a relaxing way to see some breathtaking places. Our definite favorite was swimming and paddle boarding at the base of the waterfall on the farm/inn property. Having a small group made it a very personalized experience. Derek made sure to take pictures for us while we were living a dream right there on the Big Island! We learned so much about the geography, ecosystems, and culture of the places we visited. Down to earth, real genuine people who cared about making the experience what we hoped for. The only thing I would have added was time to explore the black sand beach in Waipio Valley. If you’re looking for a leisurely way to enjoy a few great spots and make wonderful memories, this is it. Oh and bonus! Derek has a seriously great South African accent and knows a great fruit stand to enjoy chilled coconut and fresh local fruit. Perfect way to end the day!
