Half-Day Milford Track Guided Hiking Tour
Overview

- Professional guide
- Hot drink + snack
- Return water taxi
- Rain jackets available, but must be organised the day prior if required.
What to expect
There is much to see, from the ancient trees covered in lichen, to the vibrant green ferns and mosses below. Walking in a small group (maximum 12 people) your nature guide will point out the native fauna and flora, and share the fascinating human heritage of the track, bringing the area to life.
On completion of the walk an opportunity is made for photos at the sign marking the end of the walk, festooned with the boots of walkers that have made it to the end of the walk, not a single step further. Then we rejoin the boat for a transfer back to the Milford village.

This was great fun - we combined the trip with the Milford Sound cruise in the afternoon leaving from Milford Sound itself (we were staying at MS Lodge). It poured with rain overnight and through some of the morning so were slightly dreading the hike but Andrew our guide was great fun and promised great waterfalls due to the rain which there were :) He was good company and full of expert knowledge. I know some of the others in the small group were doing a few days worth of trips with Trips & Tramps and this sounded really interesting too. Thank you Andrew for the coffee midway too! A nice surprise, we were drenched at that stage. The rain soon stopped and as promised the waterfalls were spectacular. Fascinating morning, thank you.Helen (our guide) was very knowledgable about the Milford area and we learnt a lot about the flora and fauna in Milford sound, the hike was leisurely and serene. Highlight was the water taxi ride from Milford Sound to Sandfly Point that only took 5-7 mins. The cruise was as expected with stunning views of the Sounds. The tracks are mainly flat and easy, no need for hiking poles. The end of the hike was at Giant Gates Falls. We returned on the same tracks we came from back to Sandfly Point to catch the water taxi again and took us back to Milford Sound visitor centre. I took this splendid guided tour courtesy of @tripsandtramps. Trips and Tramps are tour operators based in Te Anau and have an amazing fleet of local guides who are rich in local knowledge and history of Fiordland and surrounding areas. I highly recommend these guys.We had a tree down on the road on our way to Milford sound so did not get to do the hike. We had a tree down on the road on our way to Milford sound so did not get to do the hike. There is no cell service between Te Anau and Milford sounds so we couldn’t contact them for two days. When we got back to town I had an email saying they heard about the tree issue and that we would be getting a refund, no questions asked. Really appreciate it! Thanks!Fabulous walk in beautiful scenery. Neil is so knowledgeable and helpful. Wonderful guide. All that you need is a good pair of boots

She knew so much about the flora and was willing to stop and show me the various native plants. I could have gone on the hike but without Kate I would have not known what plants I was seeing.
