I was initially hesitant about booking this tour as it caters to Chinese tourists (website and emails not in English) but I’m so happy that I did! The guide is from Taiwan and was wonderful making sure my daughter and I understood what was happening on tour before she spoke to the others. Her enthusiasm was infectious and she eagerly took photos of all of us under the dancing auroras and coaxed everyone out of the warm cozy lodge to come see the lights!! The tour starts out with 3 quick stops along the way to the forested lodge. Each night is different. We stopped at a lake with a houseboat in foreground and then went to a fishing hut in frozen Slave Lake and a forested view … then spent the bulk of the 4+ hour tour at their lodge which is fabulous! Huge space for spreading out your stuff, warm stove, snacks and hot drinks whenever you want plus hotdogs at midnight. Th eyes also dress up fur hats and stoles to wear in your quirks photos. But the best part? The 7 teepees that are scattered around the circular drive. Each one is different painted designs and size and makes an excellent foreground in your aurora photo. Loved these! They glow as they’re lit from within. The guide made sure everyone was happy and her infectious excitement was endearing. The aurora was nonstop our first night— dancing in the sky and visible with your naked eye. Amazing green purple and pink!! But it’s cold. My camera malfunctioned around 12:30 when the best lights danced overhead and couldn’t take another shot. Even “erased” my images from my memory card I thought when I checked my images the next morning (after my camera warmed up—- very important to place your camera in an airtight bag at end of night before you enter anywhere warm including the lodge and let it warm up before removing from the bag or you can destroy your camera). So I panicked and placed my memory card in a separate plastic bag with silica and waited 24 hrs and sure enough the images returned. TIP: rubber and hand warmers around your lens and battery compartment to prevent your camera from malfunctioning and replace lens cap if not shooting. We booked two tours (cancelled a different bus tour and lost money on that non-refundable tour just to go another night with this company)Great tour! Tour guide is very friendly. Some food like sausages, hot chocolate and cookies were provided which was awesome. The teepees are a nice addition too if you get to see the Aurora. If you don't get to see the Aurora the little cabin is a great way to stay warm, meet new people and checkout some of the cultural side of Yellowknife. From my 1st inquiry via email to my final drop off at my hotel after the trip, Morning Star was always prompt with response and information. From my 1st inquiry via email to my final drop off at my hotel after the trip, Morning Star was always prompt with response and information. Evie was a wealth of knowledge and provided responses expediently along with Sunny at the office. I was traveling alone on the 4 day, 3 night tour and the care, concern, guide knowledge, hospitality from Tom, our first guide on the bus Aurora viewing tour I knew I was in good hands and the overall experience of just seeing the aurora, being in the Yellowknife wilderness away from the hustle/bustle of the city topped with the excellent service fromMorning Star and all the guides and staff is a trip worth taking which I will gladly do all over again.Highly recommended the team from Morning Star. We did two nights aurora viewing during our in Yellowknife. Both nights were fantastic! Eller and Aaron take lots of pictures. The cabin very warm during -30. Tim hortons and hotdogs during the tour.love it during winter nights!
