It was an amazing experience, the tour guide was very knowledgeable about the Mayan cities. This was the worst experience we had in Mexico. We were crammed into a van at 6am. The van had no AC or open windows. It was stuffy and very uncomfortable. We drove for around 3 or 4 hours to get to the first site. When there, we were told that there was no water taxi to take us to the ruins. So we then had to drive another hour to Bonampak. There is no guiding. The guiding is extra. After this first ruin, we could not face the thought of another 4 to 6 hours in this stuffy van on a hot day. We found a local taxi to drive us all the way back to Palenque and didn’t see the other ruins. This is a 14 hour tour. The overwhelming majority of the time is spent squashed into the van. It really is not worth it.the guide and driver were both very courteous. the first restaurant is a buffet with plenty of food. at yaxchilan, the guide does a tour or you can go solo. if you go solo, keep an eye on the tour group because they may be late to the reunion point. if they are, you can stay at the ruins a little...
the guide and driver were both very courteous. the first restaurant is a buffet with plenty of food. at yaxchilan, the guide does a tour or you can go solo. if you go solo, keep an eye on the tour group because they may be late to the reunion point. if they are, you can stay at the ruins a little longer. the second restaurant is good. you place your order before going to yaxchilan and then eat afterward. then on to bonampak. the bus rides are long, but the topes aren't too bad. it's a long day, but worth it.
