I recently had the pleasure of going on the Xunantunich Temples and Jungle Pontoon Waterfall Adventure and had Steven as our guide. It was one of the best tours and days I have ever had traveling and I have been on plenty of tours all over the world. Steven was so knowledgeable, fun and everything you could ask for. He picked us up from our resort and we proceeded to the Xunantunich Temples. He was great at pointing out all of the wildlife, even pulling the car over to try to see the state bird. He took his time guiding us up the Mayan ruins while sharing all of the information that makes this place to amazing and special. He then took us for an amazing authentic lunch at a local spot that had the best handmade fresh tortillas. My boyfriend and I wanted to enjoy some adult beverages on the next part of the tour on the pontoon boat, so we loaded up the cooler. We then got to go for a fun drive to the river, the entire way he explained what we were seeing and told great stories. Once we were on the river the day just got better. He new just where to go to show us the baby crocodile and other wildlife. We parked the boat and took a short walk to Rio Frio waterfall for a fun swim, and he even helped me climb up a rock so I could jump. Just when I thought the day couldn't get any better it did. We then went to the twin waterfalls where he pulled up so close that the waterfall was splashing onto the boat, it was absolutely incredible!!! After that we parked at a small sandbar beach where we could still see and enjoy the waterfalls but were able to swim in the calm sand bottom beach. Once we were done on the river boat he drove us to an amazing lookout that overlooked the river and valley wee had just explored, so beautiful! After we were all done he took us back to our resort, but not before allowing us to stop at a market to pick up so stuff for our hotel room, since it was a little way out of town. If you have the chance to go on this combo tour, DO IT!!! And ask for Steven if he is available. We had a fantastic day with this combo tour -- a beautiful morning seeing the Xunantunich ruins and hearing about the Mayan history, and a great rest of the day on the rive. We had a fantastic day with this combo tour -- a beautiful morning seeing the Xunantunich ruins and hearing about the Mayan history, and a great rest of the day on the rive. We had Steven as a guide and lucky for us, the boat to ourselves. It was fantastic. We swam in the river, enjoyed the waterfalls, jumped off some rocks and enjoyed the rope swing. I'd highly recommend -- it is a great way to spend the day.We visited Xumantunich and then went on a river cruise with Steven and Robert as our guides. It was a wonderful way to spend the day. We visited Xumantunich and then went on a river cruise with Steven and Robert as our guides. It was a wonderful way to spend the day. Steven was incredibly knowledgeable about the ruins and when we arrived on the boat, everything was taken care of and we just relaxed. There was no stress. We stayed out on the boat for as long as we wanted, no one rushed us. The other guys were wonderful too. Cannot recommend this excursion enough.Steve made the trip! Steve made the trip! He was incredibly knowledgeable and made the trip so fun. We had a group of seven ranging in ages from 14-75. The ruins were just beautiful and so much history, it was fascinating! Steve stayed behind with those who didn’t want to climb and John took the folks who did. Nadir and Steve managed our pontoon trip. Things I didn’t expect: the hour long drive after the ruins to the pontoon is an extremely bumpy ride 80% of the time. We stopped by a grocery store to allow us to buy beer and snacks since we wouldn’t be eating for at least another 2 hours, so bring money. The pontoon boats don’t have much shade and depends on which one you get. Don’t be surprised if they tie two together to make one larger one. The boats don’t have ladders so if you jump off, prepare yourself to have to climb back on...not for everyone. We only went to two of the destination spots instead of three...long story. The food was good, just remember they don’t have food safety guidelines. It is a long day with a lot of down time. Hopefully you enjoy your tour group. We had 18 on our trip. Space was tight.Highly recommend the combination tour! The morning was educational and we learned a lot about Mayan culture. Pontoon ride was fun, adventurous and relaxing! This is a terrific way to spend a day in San Ignacio area. We started out the morning with a trip to the Mayan ruins to Xunantunich. Steve was an excellent guide — very Knowledgeable not just about the Mayan culture and history but also the local animals , spotting and pointing out various animals including the howler monkeys that we tracked in the area. The second part of the day was spent with Robert ‘(an archeologist by training) and his family (including Javier and Evelyn) on the river pontoon boat. This was a unique trip on the river with gorgeous mountains and scenery and private waterfall spots. We did some hiking and swimming by the waterfall. My son (22) said it was not only his favorite activity on our Belize trip but on any trip. We also had a nice barbecue on the boat. All told, a very memorable day with great guides and well worth the price.
