Stop At: Adventure On Purpose, 2421 E Northern Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85013-1847
Rise with the sun to meet your guide in the Home of the World's Oldest Continuous Rodeo, Payson, AZ for a 7AM start time.
Your six-hour canyon tour begins with an easy drive along the Mogollon Rim with high country mountain views all around. Keep your eyes open for antelope, elk, deer, bighorn sheep, mountain lion, turkey, black bear, or the newly re-introduced Mexican gray wolf.
Buckle on your helmet and bow your head, praying for a fun filled day full of fellowship and safe adventures. Leaving the van behind to head out cross-country, you will be navigating your way through a pine tree forest. Once in the canyon bottom your swimming and rock hopping skills will be tested. The route continues to become more adventurous as slides, waterfalls, down climbs create fun obstacles to decipher. At times the best way may be sliding, jumping, being lowered, or rappelling to continue the journey.
The adventure culminates as your group reaches the edge of a waterfall. With no where to go, but down, everyone gears up for a thrilling rappel into the deep pool below. The adventure is not over yet though as more full body exercise continues until the trip abruptly leaves the water behind and cuts out cross country once more.
Your hard work is done as you pile into the shuttle vehicle. Enjoy the smooth drive back into civilization, exhausted and happy en-route to Payson.

My daughter and I were lucky enough to enjoy this family guided adventure on a perfect spring day. The air was warm but the Christopher Creek water is really cold. The truth is that we were so immersed in the excitement and challenge of the moment, that we couldn't really focus on anything but the experience itself, not the cold. Our primary advice would be to have neoprene gloves and neoprene socks (the leader has a few of these available but if you can't count on them, it's worth the investment to have these. I can't imagine how cold my hands and feet would have been without them) Also, wear shoes that can fit OVER them: either water shoes, sandals or sneakers with good boulder hopping grip. The rocks in the water are slippery and the rocks on the trail are loose, so you DO fall, but you cannot possibly sink as the wetsuits make you buoyant and the leader is so calm and patient and clear about your options that all you want to do is carry on and enjoy! Another set of tips: thick ziploc baggies or prepackaged snacks are your best bet so nothing gets wet, be sure your backpack has comfortable straps and that you have a way to reach your water bottle easily. A GREAT experience guided sensitively by an experienced outdoorsman. We would definitely go on another adventure with him if we were to find ourselves in Arizona again.Adventures on Purpose was one of the best things I have done in my life. This was a wonderful experience to have with friends! Definitely a challenging excursion as none of us were used to any of this. The guides were very friendly, patient, and motivating to get everyone moving along together. Brian helped many of us overcome fears and hesitation to achieve what we never thought was possible. Highly recommended if you're looking for this type of excursion! We had a great time and worth the work. 6 hours was long and a little cold but not as hard as we expected. We had a great time and worth the work. 6 hours was long and a little cold but not as hard as we expected. We are 53 but pretty good shape and done some ropes in the past which helped. Swimming fully clothed with a backpack is not for everyone but we managed fine. It's not for the faint at heart but challenging without being over the top. The guide was great and the pics and video sent was perfect afterwards.A huge thanks to Brian, Kendall, and Elijah for this half-day adventure! My kids (17 and 14) had a blast sliding down rocks, rappelling, and hiking, and we always felt supported when trying new things. We highly recommend this excursion for the whole family!
