I had the most interesting tour led by Riyadh -- the consummate tour guide, full of information and personal knowledge of the Tunnel. His family is from the city and lived through the Siege of Sarajevo. In fact, Riyadh was born during the siege!! He was able to relate the struggle of the city's civilians on such a personal level -- it really brought the whole experience to life for me. My tour, “The Times of Misfortune”, was conducted by a true expert tour guide - Narmine. Listening to him share about the city of Sarajevo and the sad experiences of the 1992-95 siege of the city was like absorbing the materials in a book - and by the end of the three-hour tour, I felt as if I had read four books! He had thorough knowledge of all subjects related to the places we visited and the background of what happened in the 1990s. Yet, he wasn’t machine-like or boring. Things did not become tedious. He kept it fresh while fully informing us of the historical aspects of this human tragedy called the “Siege of Sarajevo”. He also kept any obvious bias out of the presentation. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to gain a better appreciation for what this city is all about - where it has been; where it is; and where it is going.
