Walking Tour: Chicago Loop - Home of the Modern Skyscraper
Overview
Then we're off to the Harold Washington Chicago Public Library, the design of which was the winner of a competition to design a new library for the city. From there, we'll view three Chicago landmarks built in the late 1800s, then visit the beautiful Marquette Building, the Field Building (built on the site of the world's first modern skyscraper) and then see the amazing atrium lobby of the world-renowned Rookery Building.
Next, we're off to the beautifully-restored Quincy L stop (authentic 1897 design) to take the train to our last stops. We visit the iconic Macy's to see the beautiful Tiffany mosaic then we wrap up the tour at the Cultural Center to experience the world's largest Tiffany dome.
Make a day of it and book our Pedway or Historic Pubs tour for the afternoon!

We took the Skyscraper three hour walking tour, Tom was our guide. We really lucked out, it was only the two of us, but that did not deter Tom from giving an outstanding tour. He started this tour company with his daughter, and has lived in Chicago his entire life, so he had lots of interesting stories and perspectives. We hope to return to Chicago and do another tour with this company, as they have several tours to pick from.Lindsy very helpful booking slightly larger tour. The tour itself was the perfect blend of indoors, outdoors and a ride on the L-train. From gawking at the incredible facades to exploring the insides of buildings we wouldn’t have normally thought to enter, the tour was engaging and entertaining. To top it all off, we learned how Frango’s got their name, as well as the difference between a food court and a food hall. But more than anything, it was Tom’s humor, love and knowledge of the city’s history that made this the best tour we’ve taken. A big thanks to Tom for showing us S. Fifth Avenue and making this our best trip to the Second City (take this tour and you’ll learn the origin of Chicago’s nickname too).
