This is a perfect experience for anyone looking to connect with local culture over food. Your cooking class takes place in her home kitchen where Emi will teach you 3-4 traditional Japanese dishes from her repertoire. After years of learning from three renowned chefs, she became a culinary expert who can prepare almost any authentic Japanese dish. A Tokyo native, passionate about Japanese cooking, Emi enjoys meeting travelers and sharing her culture and cuisine over a well seasoned Japanese meal served on beautiful tableware. Join Emi and make an authentic Japanese meal,  enjoyed over sake, and finished off with dessert and a cup of hot green tea!

What to expect

This is a unique opportunity to visit the home of a local and explore traditional culture and cuisine. Emi will meet you at Nerima station and together you will walk a few minutes to her home. Emi welcomes you into her simple home with mugi-cha (barley tea) before you start your private Japanese cooking lesson. You have a choice between any three dishes from this list: Miso soup, Gomaae (sesame sauce with vegetable), Karaage, Ginger fried pork, Tonkatsu, Okonomiyaki (*includes fish granule soup stock), Gyoza, Fried salmon with hijiki seaweed and edamame, Tempura, Onigiri. Please let Emi know your preference for the main dish when making your booking. Emi cannot do different mains for all, so the whole group needs to choose the same main dish. Your meal concludes with recipes to recreate your Japanese culinary experience at home.

This was a truely fun cooking class with Emi. There were three of us in the party and Emi catered to our specific request ( no seafood). We learned to make some very simple but traditional Japanese dishes. We even bought ourselves a Japanese Omelet pan after the class so we could try at home....

Emi was great - her English was wonderful and she was patient and welcoming of questions. The food she taught us to make was delicious - typical Japanese home cooking. Highly recommended!!
