We booked Rome Private Excursions well in advance of our arrival on the Vision of the Seas not really knowing what we wanted to see. My wife and I had previously done a tour of Rome's must sees, so wanted something different, whereas our adult children and their partners wanted to redo the classic Rome sights. At this point we were dealing with Luca, who is extremely professional and responsive to any and all email queries. The day we docked in Civitavecchia we were greeted on the quayside by our two drivers (John and Manny) and went our separate ways. By all accounts the kids had an amazing journey with John, seeing the important sights and enjoying a classic Lazio style lunch. They were full of praise for his knowledge of ancient Rome and the easy manner in which they could relate to him. Manny took my wife and I to Tarquina, the ancient Etruscan village North or Rome, where we could see the necropolis and the old church. The church's caretaker was happy to give us (the only tourists around) a brief overview of the church and some of the original mosaics dating back hundred of years (he also sang us a classical Italian song on his quitar showing off the amazing accoustics of the church). We decided that we wanted to go to someplace that was far less touristy and so Manny recommended we go to Orvieto. To get there requires a drive from the Lazio province into Tuscany, which takes about an hour. This enabled us to see more of the rural countryside which is often missed when doing shore excursions from cruise ships. Orvieto is a beautiful medieval town located on a hilltop. There is a large basilica, built from white, pink, gold and black marble which dominates the main square and then the narrow streets through the old town, with equally narrow lanes branching off it. Our brief to Manny at the start of our tour had been that we above all else wanted a "local lunch", with what can only be described as "local knowledge" he delivered. We had lunch in a great little restaurant up one of the little lanes where the food was fresh, authentic and distinctly "of the region". Manny was also a great guide in terms of the history of the places we not only went to, but drove past en-route. I would highly recommend Rome Private Excursions for their professional approach and excellent guides/drivers.

Wonderful day spent visiting two of the most picturesque towns in Umbria. Max was wonderful and knowledgeable, and although the weather wasn't the kindest we had a comfortable and pleasant trip. Highly recommended.

Great tour by Giovanni!
We learned so much on our drive time. We all enjoyed Lucca. The city is charming and welcoming. We rode bikes on the city wall.
We were glad to see the leaning tower of Pisa. It is very commercial there with many vendors. Lucca was by far the best!

This was an EXCELLENT tour of the medieval towns of Civita di Bagnoregio and Orvieto! Our tour guide, Max, was very knowledgable about Italian history and spoke English without even a hint of an accent. We were picked up and dropped off directly at the cruise pier so it was very convenient. Max drove us to the towns, explained whatever we needed to know, and then let us explore on our own, which we loved. I would highly recommend this tour.
