This is a really unique experience for Bulgaria! Casey and her husband explained in great detail what it takes to grow truffles, including the dangers and risks. The flavor of the fresh truffles is indescribable. I bought some to take home and am obsessed with the smell

This was well worth the cost, my husband and I both really enjoyed it. We hope to do it again when we have guests visiting Bulgaria. We loved hearing about Casey and Angel’s experience becoming farmers in Bulgaria, and their vision for the future. And we got such an interesting education about truffles. The truffle black market, truffle thrives, truffle freshness, how they grow, varieties… it was fascinating. Claire, the cutest truffle hunting dog, found 13 truffles the day we were there. Claire finds them then Angel digs them up. Claire gets a treat and a belly rub. We get to hold and smell truffles just unearthed. After the “hunt” we went to a local restaurant and the chef prepared a dish for each of us that included a very generous amount of fresh truffle. Plus other tastings. (You can also order additional food from the menu, a la carte). I admit we were surprised to find such an excellent restaurant in a remote part of Bulgaria, and we hope to return. I would suggest to others to make a whole weekend if it, stay in a spa hotel in Kyustendil overnight too. I have been watching Angelove Estate from a far for a while now, and was so excited to finally participate in one of their events. The wait was worth it! A delightful experience in the fresh air and beautiful views of the valley and mountains from their land. The most unique aspect of the Truffle Hunt, was their darling Truffle hunting dog. She was like a heat guided missile, finding well developed Truffles at every prompting. Both Casey and Angel are very knowledgable about the local agriculture and ecology, especially all the finer aspects of Truffles. They were happy to share their information about anything related to Truffles. After the hunt, we were treated to a delicious truffle inspired meal at a local restaurant where the Angelova's are on a first name basis with the chef. We enjoyed truffle infused dishes along with a tasting of their Angelove Estate distillery's signature Cherry Raki. I can't wait to enjoy another event when I am in the area.We went out on a sunny Thursday for a walk with Casey and her family. Amazing atmosphere and very cozy ambiance. Quite knowledgeable about truffles with a very well organized tasting after that in the center of Kyustendil.

We had a great time: you meet up with the group (which is kept tight, so you feel personally included and taken care of) and begin your truffle day - walking around the trees whilst enjoying a spectacular view of the mountains and nature, and while Casey and Angel tell you about the truffle culture and specificities. We found a few quite big ones. The hunt is followed by a lunch (included in the package, as of Dec. 2022) with, you guessed it, a truffle dish. Casey and Angel are not just very knowledgable on the subject but also a very fun company. They banter and tell stories, so it makes for a really good day in nature - honestly, something I could do more of, so I am glad that there are activities like this one available somewhere close to Sofia yet in a region which I would otherwise maybe not visit. We found a handful of truffles in all shapes and sizes with magnificent aromatic smells. The demonstration in the orchard was well organized, very accurate, with a friendly group and really authentic, detailed explanation about truffle growing, hunting, and eating - Total sensory overload! Afterward, the bonus was the gourmet-style lunch featuring the truffles we found that morning! Casay explained us all the secrets about growing truffles and then the use of truffle in the kitchen while Angel demonstrated his professionalism working with their friendly truffle dog. It was very educational and we definitely recommend for a couples away day or family experience with the kids! We have already done the tour 2x and will again with friends as it’s only an hour from Sofia. You can stay overnight at a lovely hotel for a wonderful weekend experience.
