A delightful drive through the countryside to an oak tree forest, owned by a monastery. We were met by 3 young people and a 2 year old truffle hunting dog, Lara. We walked through the open areas in the forest as Lara ran ahead, sniffing, then digging. Her handler then went over and retrieved the truffle. Our guide gave an excellent, informative presentation. After collecting the truffles, we walked to a setup for lunch. Using an amazing pan, the chef created a mushroom, pasta lunch with truffle on the top. It was a fantastic experience. We returned to the museum to view a display of mushroom types and a collection of stuffed birds and animals, many of them from Greece. Highly recommend this experience. This was great. First we followed the handler and the truffle hound into the woods where it found truffles and brought them back to us. Then the organiser cooked them up with mushrooms and pasta to make a tasty lunch for the whole group.

We enjoyed seeing real white truffles ($1 each, less than the expensive kind that runs $20 each) found by a dog. And the outdoor-cooked mushroom pasta was delicious and fun. Our guide seemed very informed and passionate about mushrooms. And our bonus tour of the stuffed animal museum was a decent time filler. Disappointed that we only spent 20 minutes hunting truffles though, and confused that our 4-hour tour only lasted 2 hours and 50 minutes. We certainly checked all the boxes on the itinerary but seemed like someone was in a hurry that day.Truffle hunting and lunch was surprisingly a great activity for all 10 of us in our group. Truffle hunting and lunch was surprisingly a great activity for all 10 of us in our group. Learning what it takes to train a dog and then watching her work so smoothly to find these little truffle nuggets was simply amazing. I found out just why truffles cost so much. Our lunch was pasta with mushrooms cooked right in front of us. We watched the chef warm garlic in oil, add mushrooms, mushroom broth, penne, truffle oil and fresh grated parmesan. Ohhhh, so good!! This is an adventure not to be missed.Highlight of our trip to Greece. We enjoyed the hunt, loved the friendly bright dog Lara, the food was incredible.
