We met our "guide" at the Mercado, after having been there for a while (we arrived early and sampled some of the food stalls there) we then started to select the food of the day, after determining whether it was pork, chicken or fish. We chose pork, but that fish in the stalls looked very interesting ! After wandering around the market, buying the food, (and a few trinkets also!) we went to our guides car for the journey to the home. Immediately drinks were offered (non alcoholic) and we got "aproned and knived" so we could start. First dishes were salsa's, refried beans (done right!) a squash& cheese we put onto tortilla chips, all was amazing. Alcoholic drinks were presented, (in a most unusual way!) and the meal progressed, the pork being "the star". Actually, ALL of the food was the star. There were a few bumps along the way, but overall, nothing of any concern. When finished, our now friend drove us to the port instead of to the mercado (Thank you, again) We will most definitely be returning for a repeat performance !!!HOLA, My wife D and I met Tania at the Mercado market in Cozumel. HOLA, My wife D and I met Tania at the Mercado market in Cozumel. We lucked out just us Seniors as students. Tania showed us what to look for as we picked out the fresh produce and chicken. Had a choice of pork, fish or chicken. (Tip pick up some extra Pumpkin seed spice to take home hard to find in US). She drove us to a nice home, clean, big and w great Kitchen. Washed the produce. Tania explained and how to prepare as we prepped with her. Option of non-alcoholic drinks. We made 2 great Ritas traditional and Mango later w dessert. Everything so Fresh and Tasty made over 5 dipping sauces and then tender chicken. Dessert was Fried Plantains with Coconut sauce. She sent us pictures and Recipes files. We had questions since returning home to Texas and she promptly replied. After class drove us back to our desired location. Fun we are buying a Molcajete and Cazuelas to do a Fiesta dinner with our Family here. Highly Recommend Class and Tania, Gracias Richard and Darlene Frisco, TXMet promptly at the Cozumel Mercado. Met promptly at the Cozumel Mercado. Just the two of us seniors that day. Tania warmly greeted us and took us shopping to the produce and meat stands. Market clean with fresh goods. We had a choice of Chicken, pork or fish. We chose chicken. She drove us to the home where we prepared the many dishes in a nicely equipped kitchen. Tania explained each dish as we helped. Including two different types of margaritas. All easy to make and delicious. Non-alcoholic drinks available. Tania a lovely, friendly lady and patient. Had a fun time with great food and drink. She later drove us to our desired drop-off point. Later, she sent us all the recipes and pictures she had taken. Has been very responsive for questions we had after the class. (Tip, pick up extra pumpkin seed spice at the market to take home.) Highly Recommend the class. Ask for Tania!
