Tikal National Park encompasses 575 square kilometres of jungle and thousands of ruined structures.
The central part of the ancient city alone contains 3, 000 buildings and covers about 16 square kilometers.
Tikal is also part of the one-million-hectare Maya Biosphere Reserve created in 1990 to protect the dense forests of the Peten, which started to disappear at an alarming rate due to population pressures, illegal logging and slash-and-burn agricultural practices.
Archeologists estimate that the Maya settled in the area now known as Tikal in about 900 BC.

Prior to the tour, they contacted us on WhatsApp and reconfirmed details, Rogelio our driver showed up on time and was an excellent safe driver. Our tour guide Natha was full of energy and narrated the whole trip (in perfect English) providing us with his local knowledge, while answering all of our questions, not to mention he is hilarious! On our tour we were lucky enough to see 2 types of Toucans, spider monkeys, and howler monkeys. Both Rogelio and Natha spoke highly of the owner Carlos and it really showed that they enjoyed working for the company. Myself and my wife today did the Tikal Private tour, and it was great! Noel was our guide with his driver arrived at our Casa in Flores to pick us up at our arranged time. From the start we were well looked after, given water and snacks, and driven to Tikal where we had our 4 hour tour and a good lunch. Noel was great at explaining the site, Mayan history, and even helped us spot monkeys, birds and other animals in the rain forest. He even took lots of photos for us. After the tour we were taken safely back to our Casa...Was a great day!
