For a half-day trip, we expected more walking and more explanations of what we were seeing in the national park. Instead, our guide dropped us off at two separate locations, told us which paths to follow, and said he'd meet us at the parking lot when we were done. In other words, he didn't accompany us on two of the three walks we took. For much less money, we could have hired a taxi driver to transport us. Midway through the hike, our guide told us that we would finish the day at a lake in Ushuaia. Toward the end, he said the lake was "too far" and that he'd take us on a car tour through the city instead. He drove us through the congested main drag, which we'd already been on several times, and dropped us off two blocks from the restaurant where we had a lunch reservation. We arrived at the restaurant an hour earlier than our reservation because our guide cut our tour short by an hour. I would have complained, but from the very start it was clear that our guide was not invested in the day, or in us. He was also rather rude to me personally. For the money we paid for this private tour, we expected that our guide would be very informed and willing to show us around. It wasn't that he didn't know the territory—he lives in Ushuaia and even pointed out his apartment during our "tour of the city"—but rather that he was extremely lazy. Because of him, we were left with a terrible impression of Ushuaia.
