My wife and I recently took this exceptional tour with Chubit Travel’s small group Comuna 13 History and Beer Crawl tour. This is an all-encompassing informational, beer, and food tour that lasts for 6+ hours taking you first through an area that is seldom seen by tourists and locals alike. The tour is conducted both in English and Spanish by Diana, a local who grew up in the Comuna. In Spanish, she explained the history and past struggles that the area endured and present-day life. Santiago, also a Medellin native, provided the English translation and was the go to person for food and drink. Both were fantastic personable guides. The information was fascinating, sad, and at the same time provided some hope for a better future for the residents. We met residents in their houses and saw how they presently live; it was an eye-opening experience that you do not get on the regular “graffiti” tours. The excursion is all downhill with breathtaking views. At the beginning of the tour, you will be treated to Colombian street food as well as, of course, beer (or non-alcoholic beverages if you so desire). Along the way, more stops for more beverages, all you can possibly want, and later the walk transformed into the more well-known Comuna 13 commercial area of street art and stores, with stops to peruse locally-owned establishments. The fun continued with several stops at different bars, and tastings of beers that are brewed only in the Comuna, so different and unusual. If you wanted more than just a tasting of a beer you liked, you would just ask Santi for a bottle–ALL INCLUSIVE. With many beer tastings, more food, and the constant beat of different genres of Colombian music, it made for a great and memorable day. Arrive hungry and thirsty. Again, there is no other Comuna 13 tour like this, and well worth the price for the experience. If you enjoyed yourself as much as we did, please consider providing the guides with an extra gratuity for their hard work because they told you their story, ensured your safety, and ensured that all your needs were taken care of. One last important point that this tour provided: Santi called for transportation at the end of the tour and waited to make sure we were safely on our way. This is important considering you do not want to be wandering around looking for your Uber or hailing a cab, especially after dark. The Comuna 13 tour is the best tour you can get in Medellin, you immediately feel at ease with the hosts as they try to give you the best travel experience for your trip. I took Chubit's Comuna 13 tour and it was amazing. The tour started at a local tiendita with an authentic experience of trying local foods and drinks while getting to know the others on the tour. Of course we got to see the main attractions of Comuna 13, but we also visited parts of the comuna that I don't think other tours include, and had very informative stories and commentary from the excellent tour guide, Daniel. We even got to visit the home of a woman and her family who live in the comuna to see what life is like for them. The tour also included several stops at local establishments to try some delicious beers along the way. It was also a VIP experience, which honestly I wasn't expecting. From the moment I arrived, Esteban offered me a drink and took great care of all of us throughout the whole tour, always attending to whatever we wanted or needed. Really really great people at Chubit!Perfect blend of history, personal experience, art, and craft brews. Dayhana, Santi, and Vincent were all amazing. Perfect blend of history, personal experience, art, and craft brews. Dayhana, Santi, and Vincent were all amazing. So nice to have a small group and stories from a local resident instead of a packaged tour with a script. Even non-drinkers will enjoy this perspective on the neighborhood. If you do drink, however, you’ll enjoy endless local brews and supporting local businesses. Make sure to pace yourself as the steps can get a bit tricky after several rounds! Amazing experience. We booked a Medellín tour in Comuna 13 and the Chubit team was phenomenal from the time we booked! We felt very taken care of and the tour was the most authentic on our trip. We booked a Medellín tour in Comuna 13 and the Chubit team was phenomenal from the time we booked! We felt very taken care of and the tour was the most authentic on our trip. We got to meet locals, try the best food, sample 10+ local beers we wouldn’t find anywhere else, and to experience the arts and sights we would never find on a map. Amazing! Highly recommend working with Vincent and our guide Santiago (Santi). I wouldn’t hesitate to book again! This tour is the most memorable from our time in Medellín. This tour is the most memorable from our time in Medellín. You start off in a popular tienda/bodega at the top of a hill, greeting your guide and meeting a local resident from Comuna 13 over a drink and snack (empanadas were delicious!) and you walk down steps and explore the neighborhood the rest of the time (much easier than many tours that start at the bottom and make you hike up the hill). We heard the real story of the neighborhood that our local guide lived since her childhood, visited a home to see how people live, and stopped by several bars, art shops and food stands that our guide recommended. Picking the right places to go and having all our street food and beer covered by the tour is a huge benefit - you really see more, sit in the best spots with incredible views, and experience what the local residents like to do and eat and drink. We must have sampled 12-15 beers along the way, and tried 5-6 types of food and dessert. It felt limitless to try things as we went and to have a new friend from this community point things out along the way. Unscripted, so fun, so original. Do it!!!
