The Queenstown Story @ Cobh Heritage Centre , Great Stories of Emigration.
Overview
Given that so many from Ireland's past travelled through Cobh(Queenstown), one of the world's finest natural harbours, visitors can learn historic and emotive recounts of The Queenstown Story, where over three million Irish people emigrated from this port town in search of a new life.
Everything from the sinking of the Titanic and The Lusitania, to the transportation of the forgotten Irish who endured forced labour in Cromwellian times to the West Indies and American Colonies as well as the stories of emigration to Canada and North America, is inventively displayed in a variety of modern, tasteful and artistic ways.

This was an important part of Ireland's history that all should know. Very poignant and sobering. You will need to allow several hours as there is so much to see, hear and digest. The video presentations had so much to contemplate. The Titanic part was extremely informative and particularly relevant due to this being the port that the ship last embarked from. A big lesson from the whole excellent exhibition was:- "Man's inhumanity to man" that forceed many to leave their homeland. My girlfriend and I arrived at 15:50 to pay admission and to view the exhibit, a large sign states that the last admission was 16:00 we walked up to the ticket booth to a woman who was nothing but ignorant and said “Can you not read the sign lads” trying to incite that we are blind? My girlfriend and I arrived at 15:50 to pay admission and to view the exhibit, a large sign states that the last admission was 16:00 we walked up to the ticket booth to a woman who was nothing but ignorant and said “Can you not read the sign lads” trying to incite that we are blind? We replied that we did read the sign and were greeted with “clearly not here’s a leaflet read that if you want and come back another time.” Down right nasty. We came back then 2 days later as we wanted to experience the exhibit and were not going to let one woman ruin our trip. The girlfriend was going to use the loo before we entered the exhibit and was greeted by a different woman who again was just as ignorant and told her she’s not allowed to use the toilet unless she was a paying customer and basically told her to get out as she didn’t care for what the girlfriend had to say. I think refusing a lady the right to use the bathroom is down right disgusting especially if she was ‘unwell’ and to be told in a round about way to “get out” is actually unreal. I then confronted this lady as she really had annoyed the girlfriend and explained to the lady that we are tourists and not from the area and also the treatment we received two days beforehand she simply replied “I was off that day so I don’t know, there’s a toilet up the road.” After the cheek of the second woman we thought we’d just leave the exhibit as we did not feel like being belittled anymore nor spoke to with pure hate for some unknown reason by people who don’t even know us. Avoid this place absolutely ruined our day on two occasions now.*Local review A good place to start your visit on Cobh, this is what I tell friends when they want to know more about the history of Cobh. *Local review A good place to start your visit on Cobh, this is what I tell friends when they want to know more about the history of Cobh. This is in my list of best museum to see in Cobh because it has every bits of Titanic, Lusitania, Cobh’s marine and military past, Irish migration, potato famine and more. Beautifully located on the waterfront and housed on a brick building, the Heritage Centre is right there next to the train station and the cruise terminal. There is also a cafe inside. I can’t recommend this enough because this is a treasure and a protector of Cobh’s history. This is an interesting exhibition about both immigration through Cobh and the Titanic. This is an interesting exhibition about both immigration through Cobh and the Titanic. Lots to read about those who were forcibly sent abroad and those who left voluntarily to try and find a better life. The stories told of different people were interesting and the way it was displayed was good, although rather dark in places making it difficult to read some of the signs. Overall a good hour or so was spent here. The cafe was also good with a nice selection of snacks available.Enjoyed a pleasant lunch here today. Good choice of menu for lunch & snacks.Friendly & helpful staff. Well done to everyone 👍
