Wat Mahathat, “the temple of the Great Relic” was one of the most important temples in the Ayutthaya Kingdom. Located on the historical island the large monastery features a huge central prang, a very large principal viharn and ubosot and a great number of subsidiary chedis and viharns. The upper part of its once massive central prang has collapsed. Today only the base remains.

Stop At: Wat Phra Sri Sanphet, Pratuchai Subdistrict, Ayutthaya 13000 Thailand
Wat Phra Si Sanphet, also known as the "Temple of the Holy, Splendid Omniscient" was the holiest temple in Ayutthaya during the Ayutthaya period and until the city was destroyed by the Burmese in 1767. It was the grandest and most beautiful temple in the capital and it served as a model for Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok.

Stop At: Vihara Phra Mongkhon Bophit, Pratuchai Subdistrict, Ayutthaya 13000 Thailand
Housing a large bronze seated Buddha image of 12.45 meters high (Phra Mongkhon Bophit), it was originally enshrined outside the Grand Palace to the east. It could be dated to the 15th and has a long history prior to being enshrined and to being covered nowadays with a Mondop. Wat Lokayasutharam is situated at Pratoochai District, behind the Ancient Palace and the Pratoochai Primary School, in the area 0f Wat Worapoh (Wat Rakhang) and Wat Worachettharam.
Wat Lokayasutharam is 800 meters from Wat Phra Mongkon Bophit. Wat Worachettharam and Wat Worapoh are also closeby. Nevertheless, we had quite some difficulty finding Wat Lokayasutharam, likely our otherwise good Ayutthaya map, was a bit off the mark.

- When visiting temples visitors should ensure they are suitably dressed. Long pants which go down to the ankle, not tight and not torn - Tops with sleeves and must not be see-through should be worn. All good with the trip. Most of the places visited was self explanatory if you had done a basic search of the places in the itinerary. The boat ride back was nice. The irritant in the trip was that the guide was too hung up about tourists generally asking him about Elephant rides and commenting ...

This was an absolutely lovely experience. Our tour guide, First, was knowledgeable and funny and truly has a passion for this work. The temple tours were relaxed, did not feel rushed. Our friendly guide, First, provided a great history lesson throughout the day that gave us a greater appreciation of Thailand. He also knew the best photo stops and allowed enough free time at each stop. The river cruise, on the way back, is a beautiful way to relax and see the sights.

Donna was a very knowledgeable and friendly guide. Explained about the sights and Thai culture. Timing was good, not too long not too short. Canal ride and buffet was much better than I expected. Also we were not ferried around gift shops like some tours. Highly recommended! Even as a solo travel...

The day was very nice. Everything went well. Our guide was professional, hepfull and super nice. The site is amasing, really worth to visit and the river cruise with lunch in the return to Bangkok was a good finale.
