Swimming with Dolphins in Terceira Island

In the Azores you have the chance to swim alongside the dolphins for an up-close look in perfect symbiosis with their natural behaviour and with the environment around us. Prepare to be impressed by the deep blue sea, the curiosity of the dolphins and the crystalline waters that surround the island. What to expect
Your experience begins with a briefing in which you will be given all the advice on interaction with dolphins and ways of behaving in the sea in order to make the most of this experience. We will make a brief trip to meet these friendly animals, then, its time for the interaction, the whole process will be carefully evaluated to ensure that the animals are comfortable and available to share their habitat with us. You will be able to count on the presence of common dolphins (Delphinus delphis), Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis), rissos (Grampus griseus) or bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus). It will be a wonderful experience and certainly one of the best memories of your visit to the Azores. The return to land will be done in order to enjoy fully the landscapes of the coast line of our island.
Minimum equipment necessary: Swim suit, casual footwear that can get wet, towel, comfortable clothing (post activity). It is recommended that participants tie their hair (if applicable).
Recommended Equipment: Hat, water, sunscreen, proof bag (to keep the phone and/or the camera), windbreaker jacket, lycra shirt, Neoprene gloves.

No final de Setembro, contactámos com a Picos de Aventura para a possibilidade de nadar com golfinhos. Éramos um grupo de três amigas, todas sabíamos nadar, mas com diferentes níveis de à vontade dentro de água, e fomos as únicas a ir na embarcação. Fomos recebidas pelo José e pelo André, os quais foram super simpáticos, calmos e disponíveis durante todo o passeio. Saímos da marina de Angra e, a umas 4 milhas da costa, os guias encontraram um grupo de golfinhos. O mar estava relativamente calmo, a água a uns 20ºC, e o vento era ligeiro. Foi-nos explicado que, para que não houvesse interferência com o habitat dos golfinhos, havia um limite de vezes para irmos à água e para lá estarmos. Também fomos avisadas para tentar estar calmas, não fazendo muito alarido dentro de água, para que os golfinhos, em estado selvagem, não fugissem. Deram a cada uma de nós um fato de 3.5mm e uma máscara com tubo, e explicaram como devíamos entrar na água. Não podia ter corrido melhor. Uma vez dentro de água, pudemos observar de perto estes animais. Foi uma experiência única, difícil de descrever. Uma sensação de completa absorção pelo momento, sempre acompanhadas por diferentes sons emitidos pelos golfinhos, que brincavam à nossa volta. Nunca deixámos o mesmo grupo de golfinhos pois eles nunca dispersaram, durante uns 30 min, tendo andado sempre à nossa volta dezenas de golfinhos. No final desta experiência, ainda na água, tivemos a sorte de nos aparecer um grande tubarão azul. Depois explicaram-nos que esta aparição não seria normal, mas foi um extra muito marcante) no nosso dia, que já ia com as expectativas mais do que elevadas. Sabemos que tivemos sorte, pois tudo está muito dependente das condições meteorológicas e dos golfinhos que, por acaso, acharam piada à companhia. Esta experiência foi uma actividade que nos proporcionou contacto directo com a vida aquática, no seu estado puro, sem interferir com o ambiente e com total respeito pelos golfinhos. E apesar de até termos tido um tubarão à mistura, sentimo-nos sempre seguras - o José e o André foram muito profissionais e souberam gerir bem todas as situações! Como extra, ainda levaram um drone e tivemos direito a umas filmagens, para mais tarde recordar! Um dia que nunca será esquecido.cecilioj859

We were a family of four. Parents with two teenage boys. We did three trips with this company on Terceira. Swimming with dolphins, islets cruise and whale watching, all trips were on a Rib. Swimming with dolphins we were the only people on it. The company provided all the equipment, and found dolphins. They were respectful to the dolphins whilst trying to provide opportunities for us to enter the water. When a Pod weren't interested in having humans in the water the crew left them and found another pod. The islet cruise was as described, but when they heard of a dolphin pod, they asked whether we wanted to see them, so extended the cruise so we could go and see them. The whale watching was superb. There was a briefing from the Marine biologist, who also gave a commentary throughout the trip. The 'rules' of these trips were respected and we saw two different breeds of whale, a sea turtle that the biologist had not seen before and at least two different breeds of dolphin. A great, friendly, professional company, who provided value for money.kitsune1999

Une expérience inoubliable ! Tout le nécessaire de plongée est fournit par l'équipe. Nous avons pu sauter dans l'eau plusieurs fois afin d'observer et d'écouter les dauphins. Merci à notre guide (André) pour sa bienveillance et sa patience. Il nous a même permit d'observer des baleines pilotes...
Une expérience inoubliable ! Tout le nécessaire de plongée est fournit par l'équipe. Nous avons pu sauter dans l'eau plusieurs fois afin d'observer et d'écouter les dauphins. Merci à notre guide (André) pour sa bienveillance et sa patience. Il nous a même permit d'observer des baleines pilotes situées à proximité et de passer sur les côtes de l'île afin d'y voir les falaises de plus près. Experiencia fantástica, los guías muy amables y atentos en todo momento (Iba con una niña de 8 años) y estuvieron muy pendientes de ella y los demás niños que habían. nos lo explicaron todo al detalle, y la experiencia en sí impresionante ver a los delfines dentro del agua

Fomos fazer a natação com golfinhos e embora fosse difícil de os apanhar o Guia Marcel e o colega fizeram questão de víssemos os golfinhos debaixo de água. Foi muito divertido e mesmo após saltar para água em alto mar sentimo-nos em segurança com a equipa que nos acompanhou. Recomendo para que...

Foi muito divertido e mesmo após saltar para água em alto mar sentimo-nos em segurança com a equipa que nos acompanhou. Recomendo para quem goste de um pouco de adrenalina e prefira um contacto mais natural com estes animais.
