What to expect
This entry-level course has you spending time on land learning the basic pop up, discussing the importance of ocean safety and basic rules of surfing waves. Then you will hit the water under the tutelage of your experienced instructor.

My three children (6, 8 and 10) had a lesson with Alejandro in Tamardino and it was the time of their lives. They had never surfed before and already can't wait to get back as soon as possible. Alejandro was patient, energetic, kind and very quickly figured out our kiddos personalities and tailored his approach to each one. He covered water safety, surfing technique and best of all shared his infectious enthusiasm for surfing and the ocean. Each one enjoyed his attention and expertise and was up on the board in no time. As an added bonus, he took great photos and videos of the lessons and shared them with us. We feel so lucky that we were able to get a lesson with him and would unconditionally recommend him to anyone.I had a great time learning to surf and I owe it all to Alejandro. I didn't have any experience surfing but he has patience for days and is passionate about what he does and within an hour I looked like I might know what I'm doing. A friend recommended Seafari Costa Rica to me when I told them I was traveling to Tamarindo. We booked a two hour private lesson and had an amazing time. Alejandro provides everything you need including transportation, board, rash guard, sunscreen, and drinks. We began with a lesson on the beach which was very important for our understanding or surfing. We then hit the water and were doing much better than we ever thought possible. Alejandro is a great teacher and even better person. We were learning alongside other classes and I truly felt like we were getting the best instruction. I highly recommend for all levels of surfers.I can’t recommend Alejandro and Seafari enough! Clearly knowledgeable about his craft, he is very passionate and effective at sharing his knowledge. I can’t recommend Alejandro and Seafari enough! Clearly knowledgeable about his craft, he is very passionate and effective at sharing his knowledge. Not only can he give you the strategies to be successful at your first surfing outing but he also explains the science behind those tips, providing notes on balance and the physics of the ocean. Alejandro dispenses this know-how and love for the sport with a fun, positive energy that is quite useful during what may be an anxiety-inducing, first experience squatting on a wooden board balancing a few feet above the ocean surface, rolling toward the sandy shore. Bottom line: this guy is great. When we go back to Tamarindo, we will surely be back out in the water with Seafari! -Colby and Allison.My family and I took lessons with Alejandro for surfing and it was one of the greatest highlights of the entire trip! Very fun activity, that Alejandro and Sebastian made so easy for all of us. Highly recommend to do this activity with them if you’re ever in Costa Rica!
