Snorkel and Island Experience at Laughing Bird Caye National Park
Overview
Laughing Bird Caye is a National Park and World Heritage Site. It is a long and narrow island known for its abundance of marine life and corals. The name comes from the gulls that are among the many birds that Inhabit the north end of the caye. Laughing Bird Caye offers excellent snorkeling as would be expected at a national park. On the east side of the island coral mounds separated by sandy patches rise to about 5 feet from the surface. These mounds have a variety of coral types which are home to lobsters, barracuda, lizardfish, angel fish, parrot fish, spotted drums, southern rays and a myriad of reef fish. On the west side your guide will find lobster, barracuda, lizardfish, Nassau grouper, angel fish, furry sea cucumbers, conch and lots and lots of colourful juvenile reef fish.

Stop At: Laughing Bird Caye National Park, 11 Miles Off the Coast of Placencia Village, Placencia Belize
Depart Splash Dive Center at 09:00 am for the 30 to 40 minute boat ride to Laughing Bird Caye National Park. This is the most popular Inner Reef dive destination. Upon arrival expect a briefing from the park ranger and then head into the water with your licensed snorkel guide. If you have not snorkelled before, no problem. Our guides are happy to show you the ins and outs of snorkeling and how to find the good stuff. Critters include spotted drum, huge lobsters, cleaner shrimp, arrow crabs, snapper, barracuda and more varieties of reef fish than you can count. l
Around mid day you’ll enjoy a Belize style picnic lunch or a barbecue on the island. Then, you would head back into the water for more underwater exploration. There are lots of areas with healthy corals and abundant aquatic life to check out before heading back to Placencia.

My wife and I were picked up in Placencia, checked in at the Splash base, a very nice office with shade, juice, and coffee. My wife and I were picked up in Placencia, checked in at the Splash base, a very nice office with shade, juice, and coffee. We got the bit of snorkeling gear we needed and boarded the boat, about a 46’ twin diesel with smallish bridge, foredeck and good size common area on the main deck. There were about 15 snorkeling and two to dive. Lots of crew on board and briefing was good. Half an hour to Laughing Bird Caye. We’ve done a lot of snorkeling and this was one of the best ever. We were separated into three groups by comfort level and we were four with one guide, Ruth, who was excellent...! We did an hour before lunch and about 40 minutes after lunch. Coral was vibrant. We saw lots of fish and plenty of variety. A spotted eagle ray too. An excellent tour, highly recommended.Janice_C

The beauty was outrageous and we all felt very taken care of with the guides being very informative about the area, the beverage service, the hot fresh BBQ lunch (amazing) on the island, the snorkeling was fantastic and we had our guys with us to guide us and answer any questions about the sea life and history of the place. The color of the water with the birds, fish and sea life was hands down one of the best experiences I’ve had and with the experience, expertise and hospitality of our crew Jimmy, Mike and Marco at Nautical Adventures.. My family of 4 had a fabulous snorkel/scuba diving adventure with the Splash team. 3 of us snorkeled - the water was clear and there were plenty of sea coral, sea life, sea fish to see. We were brought out in a small group with a guide (required to protect the reef). My daughter went scuba diving with a dive master and another diver. Super professional and wonderful experience.
