I'd like to start this review by saying that Danilo and Sandy were amazing! they were kind and funny and we had a nice time with them. Having said that, I do believe that the tour needs to be restructured a bit. We loved watching the cacao being made, the horseback riding, the visit to the church and all. However, people were getting bored with all these small stops, so maybe make less of them and allow us a longer time at Macao beach, we were only there for 20 mins, in such short time most of us just took a picture and sat down. Not enough time to get comfortable there, order a drink or swim. I would also put the Market visit part AFTER we ate. I'm telling you it was quite shocking for a lot of us watching how they kill and pluck a chicken and then go straight to eat one. Also, most likely the meat is incredibly fresh and I'm sure all good, but watching the meat in the sun filled with flies, didn't exactly open our appetite. Now to be honest, I couldn't bring myself to eat the meat when we went to the river & lunch part, but the food was AMAZING! Danilo got us some great avocados right before our lunch stop, the fruit was so sweet and everything was flavourful. Like I said, I couldn't try the meat but my husband did and he loved it. Overall it was an okay-ish trip. I wouldn't take it again, don't know if I'd recommend it. Just because it was a bit tedious. Maybe it is a must if you want to see the real deal, no Mickey Mouse like Danilo said haha and live something different from the resort experience. We had a wonderful time with Teo exploring the local culture of Punta Cana. We had a wonderful time with Teo exploring the local culture of Punta Cana. We always felt very safe with our guide and we loved that the group was small so we could get to know each other throughout the day. Highlights included a beautiful local lunch by the river and exploring the market with all its wonders. 10/10 would recommend if you want to get to know Punta Cana more personally, but don't want to spend a whole day off the resort. If you are looking for an immersive experience, the cultural tour is for you! If you are looking for an immersive experience, the cultural tour is for you! My boyfriend and I attended the tour on a Sunday in early September as part of our vacation to Punta Cana. Firstly, we received confirmation a day prior along with our pick up time. On the day of the excursion however, we expected them to come into our hotel gates to pick us up, so we waited in our lobby. We saw them pull up and realized they weren’t coming in, so we began to walk to the gate. Within 2 minutes, they were about to drive off. We had to run and shout to catch them. I guess we misunderstood, so be on time and confirm where they will pick you up. We were picked up in a safari style truck, it is a little cramped but it did the job. Our tour guide immediately began to point out some important sights as we picked up others. Our first stop was at Salvaleon De Higuey, where we went horseback riding and saw some of the beautiful fruits and vegetables being grown. The views were absolutely beautiful. The staff were also lovely and full of joy. We went onto a few other stops like the Basillica, the Anamuya River, and a souvenir shop. We also had a chance to visit a “Typical” Dominican house where we learned how coffee and chocolate is made, sampled both, then had a chance to purchase. In addition, we rolled cigars and sampled a few at another location. It was all fun! On our last stop, we visited Macao Beach. It was a very short stay, about 30 minutes; so if you are expecting time to relax on the beach, it will not be feasible. There is a Dominican lunch buffet along the way, on the river stop. The food was OK. Staff were very pleasant and attentive. Overall, it was a great outing and I would recommend to others. We got a great value for everything that we were able to do. Moreover, we met some great folks who became friends in the end. The tour guides were very personable and gave us tips on fun activities and places to visit during our trip. Please note, we ran into a number of rain storms throughout the trip. Bring an umbrella or a foldable rain coat to protect yourself. The truck has waterproof curtains, but you might end up getting caught in the rain as you walk outside. The tour was incredible, and both our tour guide and driver, Robinson and Domingo, were absolutely fantastic! The tour was incredible, and both our tour guide and driver, Robinson and Domingo, were absolutely fantastic! I can’t believe how much we managed to fit into one day, with horse riding, visiting markets, seeing how coffee and cocoa are grown and made, seeing how cigars are made (and making our own!), having lunch at a beautiful river setting, and visiting Macao beach. The tour was packed, interesting, and great fun! I’d definitely recommend to anyone wanting to see the Dominican Republic outside the resorts.
