Sticking to our philosophy, all our tours and activities are limited to small groups (maximum of 8 guests per tour) to get the best and most memorable experience of Lapland. We refuse mass tourism, and you will never end up in big groups - even in peak season!

What to expect
There is no better way to explore untouched parts of Arctic nature than backcountry skiing! As your professional guide will take you straight into the Taiga forest, you will get the chance to enjoy some of the breathtaking scenery of Lapland using backcountry skis and leave your track in the deep snow where no one has been before you!
Backcountry skiing is a great way to explore remote areas of Lapland. Unlike alpine skiing or cross-country skiing, which are practised on groomed trails, backcountry skiing allows you for a more adventurous trip through hilly terrains, forests and lakes. It does not require much practice to get used to the techniques and slide on deep snow. This makes it very comfortable and easy to use, even for beginners!
Your guide will choose a location that best fits the level and the needs of the group. They will also teach you some safety instructions/techniques on how to use the skis in fresh snow. Refreshments and a typical Finnish campfire snack will be provided around an open fire.
This ski tour lasts 3 hours, including transportation from/to Rovaniemi, barbecue snack and the skiing time (around 1 hour - 1 hour 30 minutes depending on your level).

The experience was quite fun. We started at the main office in town and changed into gear. They rent warm overalls and boots but nothing else. It’s bitterly cold in the winter so you must have your own gloves and hat. We drove for about 30 minutes before we stopped and got everyone setup with gear. That process took about 20 minutes. We trekked across a frozen lake, took some pictures and enjoyed the scenery. After about 45 minutes of that, our guide let us explore the forest a bit in a smaller group while he prepared the fire for the bbq. We rejoined the main group and had sausages and melted chocolate with marshmallows. Our guide also prepared coffee and tea. Overall, it was a nice experience out in the snow. The main downside is the fact that the company doesn’t ensure everyone is physically fit enough to perform the activity. Our group had a few people who weren’t very fit and we spent a great deal of time waiting for them to either catch up, or figure out how to stand up after they had fallen. This was unfortunate because it limited our experience.
