My adult daughter and I spent 3 fabulous hours with Kelly, sketching in and near the Jewish Quarter. We worked in graphite, ink and watercolor in a handmade accordion sketchbook that Kelly made for each of us. She is an excellent instructor with plenty of patience and encouragement. You really don't need to know a thing about how to "do art" in order to thoroughly enjoy chatting with and learning from Kelly. I will go out sketching with her again next time I'm in Rome.My teenage son and I did a sketching tour with Kelly this afternoon in Rome and loved it. It was fun and relaxing and a wonderful way to spend the afternoon in Rome. Would love to come back and do it all again! We will take away wonderful memories and it made us both want to sketch and paint more often.Great afternoon. Great afternoon. Despite a cold rainy November day Kelly was very enthusiastic with lots of exercises sketching freeing my mind to be creative. She is very upbeat serious about art knows Rome and Art very well. We first worked in a peaceful cloister then the rain sent us to a cafe. She had all the materials. She gave good feedback and constructive suggestions. I am an oil painter and felt working with a different medium pencil pen and watercolor got me out of a rut. I left the class with two sketches I really liked which will remind me of Kelly and Rome. Enjoyed The afternoon with Kelly. A great activity to get in touch with the city.Due to a number of circumstances we are a little late sending in our review, but we really want to give Kelly and Sonia their due praise! Due to a number of circumstances we are a little late sending in our review, but we really want to give Kelly and Sonia their due praise! We joined a Sketching Rome Tour almost a year ago, on a lovely October afternoon (below, it says November 2017, but I can't select October 2017 anymore). Sonia was our guide and showed us Rome through an artist’s eyes. Everything you need on the Tour is provided, you only want to bring an open mind. We learned a lot about looking, sketching and watercolouring and we had a great time (although we turned out to be not nearly as skilled as other participants). The best thing about the tour for us was that we learned to look so much better while drawing. That ability added significantly to our enjoyment of other sights. In the remaining days of our stay in Rome, we took our sketchbooks along and they are ready and waiting for our next visit. And of course we recommend the SRT to everyone who plans to visit Rome!I just got home from a wonderful 2-week vacation in Italy and I can say that Kelly's class is high on the list of my very favorite memories. I just got home from a wonderful 2-week vacation in Italy and I can say that Kelly's class is high on the list of my very favorite memories. And there's some tough competition there. So much of my 4-days in Rome was rushing to see sights, find food, get caffeinated... what a joy it was to slow down, focus and get creative. This is one of the world's great cities for art and architecture, after all. Kelly is a great teacher... she focuses on the positive, which I think is key. I would encourage friends to try this if they go to Rome whether or not they think they can draw/paint. As Kelly told us several times in different ways: this is about the experience, not making a masterpiece. (That said, my sketchbook is already a treasured souvenir). Practically speaking, Kelly had everything we needed and made sure we were comfortable. She walked us through some drawing exercises, then allowed some free-time for sketching or bio-break before we got into the watercolors. I haven't tried watercolor since I was a wee-little-one (part of the reason I wanted to do this class), but I was so inspired by this experience I was determined to get a travel watercolor kit of my own. And with an art-supply store recommendation from Kelly, I did (and managed one more watercolor before leaving Rome!!)Looking back on my trip to Rome, this sketching tutorial with Kelly stands out as one of my most memorable times. Looking back on my trip to Rome, this sketching tutorial with Kelly stands out as one of my most memorable times. In contrast with the pressure of densely-packed tourist sites, dashing my eyes across multiple stimuli, here i sat in a neat little courtyard Kelly led us to, on a camping stool in the shade, guided by Kelly to trace my eyes slowly along my chosen object. The world geared down to a quieter place, an accordion played close by, and I followed the curve of bricks around a mottled archway next to Roman ruins and felt more fully in Rome than at any other time. I took away the book that Kelly made for each of us, a pencil and a pen and after the horrendous crush of the Vatican museum tour I recovered in the quiet of a park by using her gifts and lesson to sketch a Mediterranean pine. So, I highly recommend this way of “doing” Rome, the way it was enjoyed by travellers for hundreds of years before the advent of the smart phone and the selfie stick. I had never had a fine art lesson in my life and have little by way of artistic sensibilities. But I stimulated another part of my brain and so enjoyed the experience with Kelly’s kindness and gentle guidance.
