Stop At: Šibenik, Croatia
Think of me as your local friends with whom you eat, drink and explore. It’s a real hotchpotch, but you will stumble across, uncover and experience: Café culture, appetizer which was served on the coronation of Queen Elisabeth II, Balkan hamburger, local grape which you can see in the UN building in NY, white wine which locals used to pay their debt to the Venetians, Mediterranean Garden in old town, open air market, a cappella groups, medieval air-conditioning, sweet fritters, donkey races, anti-aristocratic revolt, cooking “bell”, medieval food market (don’t worry, its modern food now), animal rights in the Middle Ages, medieval cloth measurer, Mediterranean herbs, a mix of white wine and soda water or red wine and still water, olive oil currency, to understand why locals washing olives with the sea water, baked filled pastries which you can find in the cuisines of the former Ottoman Empire, summer homes of Sibenik noblemen, basketball Mozart, Brangelina divorce, shell fish farms, and numerous other things along the way. I will probably also mention the plague of Sibenik 1649 quite a bit too.

Igor was very accommodating by meeting seven of us at the cruise port and taking us through Old Town Sibenik. The walk was interesting and involved quite a few steps with not many handrails. Igor is extremely knowledgeable about the history and customs of the town and he knows all the best places to visit and for taking pictures. We requested a partial food tour along with the walking tour and Igor took us to a lovely garden to sample brandy then to a unique local wine bar that we never would have found on our own. It was located under the street in an old cistern - very cool. Our final food stop was for a wonderful lunch of local pasta, salad, bread and wine. We enjoyed every moment of our day. Igor even walked us back to the cruise port to make sure we didn't get lost. I highly recommend using Igor as your tour guide when visiting Sibenik.Igor and is lovely wife offer a terrific food and drink tour with a splash of history and a wonderful dosis of humor. Certainly one of the best tours we took on this cruise. But one friendly warning, don't eat before going on this tour. The food just keeps coming. You will have a great time.
