Sacha Runa was amazing. I went for a retreat and plant diet in the jungle and spent a few days in the Andes as well. Not only did I get to experience two of the most beautiful places, the jungle with waterfalls, clear rivers, lush plant life, and the mountains with incredible views of a snow-capped peaks and gorgeous landscape, but I also felt that lots of healing was possible in these places and especially with Phillip the shaman as well as everyone who works at Sacha Runa. There is a lot of love and care toward their guests and it feels like an ideal place to go for a retreat. Would definitely go back!I owe this review to Juan. I owe this review to Juan. I went to the retreat center the second week of January and sit through two ceremonies. It was my first ayahuasca experience ever and I have read very little about it. Even I was a bit afraid as I haven’t experienced any psychodelics before. I was lucky that my cohort was very small, 4 and 3 people, respectively. And this gave me the chance to ask questions to Juan about everything. His style was unique. Mixing traditional shamanic, Sikhism and a few others spiritual beliefs into its own Juan’s ceremony style. My first ceremony was as not spectacular. First cup was like a tv show and the second was more vividly experience, like a lucid dream. Afterwards I felt really open, like something changed inside me. I felt very happy about it and that everything is going to be OK with my life. However, the second ceremony, oh boy... there are no words to describe what happened to me. That day I was very calm and open to anything that the mother Ayahuasca would show me. No matter what, I was already happy by the entire experience of the retreat. The first cup I felt nothing. Like I was in the void the entire time. I didn’t even throw up which is kinda uncommon. The second cup... this is where “the trip” started. I felt out of control of my body. I experienced the world. The people. The nature. The underworld. The outer world. I felt a purpose. I felt blessed. I could be whatever I want. I could feel others people pain and help them. I saw other beings and other worlds. At some point I felt like I could die because of my heart rate and my body twisting out of my control. But I just let it go and went with the flow. I allowed myself to experience everything as I knew, thanks to Juan teachings, that everything is going to be OK. After leaving the retreat center, I read a couple of books about ayahuasca and DMT and I can say I experienced 90% of everything is described there. I think I was ready to experience it and was lucky to book for 2 ceremonies. Now I think ideally you would want to go for 3 ceremonies because in the first one it’s hard to let the mind and body allow the Ayahuasca to do its wonders, unless you already have experience with similar substances. This is not a recreational drug. It’s a spiritual medicine and you have to be ready for it. Be respectful. Everything has a reason: the diet, the chants, the intention, etc. Fast forward, I quit my job. I jumped into the unknown of not knowing what to do with my life after a rough divorce but I knew it was OK. An important point is that I was already going through therapy to deal with several issues in my life. The ayahuasca help me to heal what therapy couldn’t. Six months later, I’m packing my stuff to move overseas and face a new life with no fears and no attachments. I still don’t know what’s going to happen to my life but I feel happy about it. It’s going to be OK. Thanks to ayahuasca I have experience the connectedness with the nature, the people, the world, the universe, and also feeling like I was dying. I have no more fears. I’m very grateful to Juan. I owe you my new life hermano. MaxiMeeting Miguel was like meeting a spiritual God, he must be best healer on this planet. I spent a full week retreat at Sacha Runa, and it was truly magical! Juan is extremely kind, caring, and attentive. He deeply respects Mother Nature and his path as a shaman, and is very knowledgeable about a wide range of spiritual teachings. He truly wants the best for his guests, both while on the retreat and also on their life journey. He made me feel extremely welcomed, and I trusted him completely. As a female traveling on my own, I felt safe and secure at Sacha Runa. The location is nestled among snow-capped mountains and beautiful views, and the buildings are constructed in a way that allows visitors to connect with nature. I would highly recommend going to Sacha Runa, and look forward to going back myself someday. I'm deeply grateful for Juan and his partner, Lula, and the beautiful experience they shared with me. Much light to all who are drawn to this place. You won't regret it.Alkamari is currently the top spiritual center to my knowledge. I'm an American who was was looking for an ayahuasca retreat to participate in during my time in Bolivia. I wanted an authentic experience, and not something touristy. After asking around and doing some research, everyone I talked to told me to come here! I had no idea what to expect, but Juan (the Shaman who hosted our retreat for 5 days) was better than I could have ever imagined. A group of 4 of us completed all 5 days together, and with Juan's help, each of us was deeply moved and found the answers and feelings we were seeking during our experience. Juan has a true talent for connecting emotionally with each individual during the ayahuasca experience, knowing exactly what each of us needed at any given moment. He helped guide me through incredible discoveries, and allowed the plant to give me the answers I'd been looking for. The day after each ceremony, we integrated our experiences, and Juan offered incredible insight for me that I didn't even know I needed. I felt safe in his hands the entire time, trusting him implicitly. To say my ayahuasca experience with Juan was life-changing is an understatement. For 4 years, I'd been looking for some closure and guidance that I couldn't quite find on my own. While I won't say this was an easy experience, it was exactly what I needed and what I came looking for. Since leaving the retreat and hearing of my experience, several friends have asked me about participating in an ayahuasca ceremony in the future. My advice to them is: make sure you have a legitimate shaman. If this is what you're looking for, I can't recommend my experience with Juan enough!! He is an incredibly selfless and intuitive shaman who is there to serve and help you in any way that he can.
