Tvrdalj was the summer residence of Petar Hektorović, the Croatian poet (1487–1572). During the 16th century, the island of Hvar came under attack from the Ottoman Turks. Hektorović, one of the local nobles, undertook to fortify his house so that it could act as shelter for the local citizens.

We rented a quad from Kristijan. He was very polite and gave us some tips to visit the island. The quad was brand new and so where the helmets. Best to rent the quad with Kristijan himself, it's cheaper than on tripadvisor.

We are always a bit suspicious when renting abroad so we always check online for the best agencies, and that's how we found Real Hvar. The service was great, the price reasonable and the owner even let us keep the scooter few hours extra free of charge. Highly recommend this agency.
