Our decision to go to Nepal birding was very last minute and how very lucky we were to chose Samsara Trekking. We had a fantastic week seeing a little of sights of Kathmandu before then walking and driving through the stunning scenery of the Chitwan NP area and on our last day exploring the hills around Kathmandu. Guided by our knowledgeable hosts Prem and Bishnu Thapa we saw and identified almost 200 bird species along with amazing close encounters with rhino, sloth bear, mongoose, deer, bats, crocodiles, thousands of butterflies and dragonflies. No leopard or tiger for us this time but leopard in particular are regularly seen. Our exploring of Kathmandu was a real bonus as Prem is so knowledgeable on the history of the the country, the city and the range of religions and cultures that have made Katmandu the sprawling, crazy but fascinating city it is today. Prem and Bishnu's knowledge of the local birds, wildlife and countryside was exceptional and no surprise from brothers that were born and raised amongst the forest, wetlands and rivers of Chitwan. They looked after us all the way from pick up and then return to the airport leaving us only flights and beers to cover. It was a full on week and we were sad to have to leave when there is so much more to see and experience in Nepal. We highly recommend Samsara Birding Holidays for a 'real' experience of Nepal and we are already planning our return next year to explore the parks in the West and trek into the mountains.I did the langtang trekking (9 days) and then Chitwan (8 days) with samsara trekking. The guide Bishnu is a very skillful birder and was a very good company, always very helpful. We had a lot of fun and spotted more then 320 species of birds and about 20 species of mammals. Bishnu even mananged to spot a leopard at the langtang trek! The last day his brother Prem showed me the cultural heritage of kathmandu. He is teaching buddhism at the university of Kathmandu and so he could explain the meaning of the carvings and rites very vivid. My wife an I did a one day one day tour to Phulchoki Hill with Samasara Trekking. Our trip took us to Bardia and Chitwan National parks, Pokhara, and the vulture rescue centre at Pithauli. In addition we birdied on the outskirts of Kathmandu at the start and finish of our two weeks in Nepal. The birding was excellent. We have done four previous trips in the Indian sub-continent but our highly competent guides showed us more than twenty species I had not previously seen. In all we recorded about two hundred and forty species, including Nepal’s only endemic, the elusive and highly sought-after Spiny Babbler. Even on the last day we added several spectacular birds to our list. There were also good mammal sightings, including five deer species, rhinoceroses and a close view of a tiger! Transport, with one minor exception, was well organised. Our accommodation was fully adequate and the local food was always well received. At our request we also did some sightseeing in Pokhara and Kathmandu. Prem, Raju and Santa proved to be excellent guides, with good eyesight and good knowledge of the bird calls. I thoroughly recommend these dedicated conservationists for a birding holiday in Nepal. We just had a lovely birding trip organized by Samsara Trekking. We just had a lovely birding trip organized by Samsara Trekking. Prem and Bishnu are very experienced and interesting to talk to. They took good care of us, and they really know their birds and wildlife. We covered several geographic areas including Bardia, Lumbini, Chitwan, and ShivaPuri. At all times we felt secure and well cared for. It was a lovely way to visit the country and to see the amazing wildlife.
