Stop At: Roque de Los Muchachos, Lp-4 Municipio Villa de Garafía, 38788, La Palma Spain
The Mirador del Roque de los Muchachos is the quintessential viewpoint of the Island and is located at the highest point of La Palma at 2, 426 meters above sea level. The name of Roque de Los Muchachos comes from the shape of it, as they are a series of small roques about 3 meters high, which resemble a group of boys. From there you can see an impressive view of the National Park of La Caldera de Taburiente, where depending on the weather conditions it is possible to see the other three islands of the province (Tenerife, La Gomera and El Hierro).

We booked this tour from the UK before we embarked on a cruise to the Canaries. [email protected] website is clear, easy to use and resulted in a very prompt email response. No deposit was necessary and the booking confirmation simply stated that we should pay the agreed sum to the driver at the end of our tour. We got off the Queen Victoria 30 minutes earlier than we had expected, but Nestor, our driver, was there at the front of a long line of taxis ~ as near to the ships gangway as he possibly could. He was holding a big sign with our names clearly on display as promised. In spite of some language limitations, we agreed to vary our route on his advice because of the rainy weather and set off on our four hour tour. Using his phone to access an English commentary, we drove through Santa Cruz stopping at a couple of interesting vantage points overlooking the city. Nestor insisted on taking my wife by the arm and sheltering her under his umbrella ~ she enjoyed the attention! Travelling through the tunnel from one side of the island to the other took us from a grey rainy day to a much sunnier and warmer one! We visited the beautiful Parque Nacional De Caldera de Taburiente and on to Playa Tazacorte to enjoy the black volcanic sand beach before stopping for refreshment at Bodecon Tamanca. This excellent restaurant, made out of the volcanic rock, is worth a visit in itself ~ and the wine is good too! Nestor went out of his way to ensure we enjoyed our trip ~ stopping occasionally to show us chesnuts, eucalyptus seeds and aniseed that he spotted by the roadside! Nestor's careful driving on some challenging roads, his attentiveness and obvious love for his island home made this a really memorable journey for us and by the time he returned us to our cruise ship, we were loving La Palma too!Jose Antonio was the perfect guide to a truly wonderful day. Jose Antonio was the perfect guide to a truly wonderful day. He arrived on time in a great taxi with big windows and a very pleasant manner. We had fun practicing our Spanish with him. We felt very safe on the winding road and he drove very well. He was informative, pointing out all the wonderful things to see along the way. We simply couldn’t have asked for a better trip or driver. Thank you Jose for a memorable day!Gran día de ruta en taxi con José Antonio. Como cualquier palmero súper amable, amante y conocedor de su tierra, nos hizo un recorrido a nuestro antojo para aprovechar el día con mil datos y anécdotas! Lo recomiendo.
