Rogue River Thrill Seeker
Overview
Mid-day the group will enjoy lunch on our patio between games of ladder golf. After you have had your fill we load in the van for a short drive to the put-in for the Nugget Falls section of the Rogue River. This section of the river has much bigger whitewater so we load into a paddle raft where you paddle as part of a team through the frothing torrents. The afternoon section builds in difficulty, culminating in the famous Tilomikh falls, a combination of two drops plummeting over 10 feet in total.
Inclusions
- Air-conditioned vehicle
- Lunch - Lunch is served at our pub between the AM kayaking portion of the trip and the PM rafting portion of the trip.
What to expect
In the morning we paddle the Hellgate section of the Rogue River in inflatable kayaks. In the afternoon we paddle the more exciting Nugget Falls section of the Rogue River as a group in a bigger paddle raft.

Awesome fun three day, two night trip on the Rogue River through the Wild and Scenic section with our extended family. Paddle rafts give plenty of exercise and engagement for the more cautious, while kayaks are an awesome fun alternative for fit thrill seekers of all ages. Orange Torpedo staff team of Mike Slegel, Cory, Chris, Scott and Greyson guided us through varied geologic formations and levels of rapids, teaching techniques and skills, while demonstrating it themselves. Rapids through canyons and forests allowed for engagement with thrilling challenges, always with safety in mind; while calm peaceful stretches of river allowed for viewing of bald eagles, osprey, great blue herons, sunning turtles, swimming snakes and other wildlife. Mike Slegel’s knowledge of historic characters and locations along the river, with his unmatched storytelling skills, combined with short hikes to abandoned cabins and the Rogue River Ranch, brought history to life. Chris’ incredible energy and enthusiasm along with his amazing lunches along the river, made for delicious refueling. His photographic skills combined with the generous company policy of freely sharing the photos, makes for fun post-trip memories, delivered within hours of ending the trip. Rustic lodges provided hot showers and comfortable beds with delicious dinners, games, guitars, fishing and the opportunity to recharge. The lack of internet connection for three days topped off an awesome and fulfilling multi-generational family vacation. We went on the Thrill Seeker over Labor Day weekend. We went on the Thrill Seeker over Labor Day weekend. In the morning we had Kalen and the kayaks. What a great trip. The river was ours. Kalen was wonderful and very informative, we learned a bunch of stuff and afterwards we had confidence that we could kayak on our own if we wanted to (as long as we didn’t try to be too brave). In the afternoon we had Captain Garrett. Our boat had a couple about our age from Georgia and their son and his girlfriend. What a great boat!!! Garrett did most of the work and we were grateful. Our arms we weak from the morning trip. Garrett was so stoked because he got air on Nugget. When we were surfing, he got a chance to come up front with us to get into the video!!!! We had so much fun. At the office, everyone was very professional, polite and helpful. I never felt we were a bother. Dealing with the public is hard work but the staff made it look easy. At the Torpedo Bar, Quin was a hoot. At lunch she made us feel so welcome. After our day on the river was over, we sat and talked for a couple hours over beer and felt like family. Kalen joined us and we made new friends. We’ve invited them up to our place any time they want to come. I’m so happy we did this trip. If anyone is on the fence about Orange Torpedo or the Thrill Seeker, we are two overweight, middle 50’s people who demand excellence and would come back again. As for the Thrill Seeker, we are two overweight middle 50’s people who did it! If we can do it, anyone can. Thanks for a great birthday!!!!!Every part of the experience was amazing! Every part of the experience was amazing! The scenery is beautiful, the rapids are exciting and challenging, and the staff is wonderful. Both halves of the trip are sprinkled with short opportunities to catch your breath and enjoy the bounty of natural beauty between adrenaline-inducing rapids. While each whitewater section presents a unique challenge, it's at a very doable pace. I never felt like I couldn't keep up, but I was certainly never bored! The guides are knowledgeable, skilled, and engaging, making the experience even more enjoyable and memorable. I'd recommend Garrett, Dietz, Spencer, and Quinton because they give clear directions about safety and technique, yet still make sure you're having plenty of fun. The entire experience exceeded every possible expectation I could've had. If you do only one outdoorsy in the Rogue Valley, make it an Orange Torpedo trip!!My wife and I planned a Graduation Trip for our daughter to come back to Grants Pass for a week. My wife and I planned a Graduation Trip for our daughter to come back to Grants Pass for a week. My wife and I are from Grants Pass and our kids really don’t know much about the area, except through us. None of our kids had ever floated the Rogue, and we decided to do this trip through OTT. While it would be considered an expensive way to raft the Rogue, truly with a big family (6 people), this is the ONLY way you want to do this trip. Our guide, Chris Shields was truly a professional, and instantly part of our family. Everything on our trip felt personal and brought feelings of our childhood. We got to OTT at 7:45 in the morning, and because of the temperature, we had the option to use a wetsuit. Additionally, in the morning session, you will be in your own kayak and if this is your first trip ever in a kayak, you still will feel immediately safe and sound. We put in at Hog’s Creek and float to Galice for the morning session. At this time, you put out and go back to OTT for a BBQ lunch, hamburgers, potato salad, chips drinks. The afternoon session, you put in before Nugget Falls in Gold Hill and do some fast big water through Tilomikh Falls. Through this part of the trip, you are in a large team raft, traversing and paddling as a team. After this quick two hours, you put out past Tilomikh Falls and go back to OTT. The staff is amazing. Chris Shields is a hilarious guide and is exactly the kind of person you want on this day long trip of laughs, memories and outright beauty. We saw a bald eagle, plenty of other wildlife and now I have four children that feel comfortable enough to come back and raft more and want more challenges. OTT, Aloha and Mahalo! You gave this displaced Grants Pass family in Honolulu exactly what we wanted....a day of amazing memories.I was able to join in on the Rogue River Thrill Seeker adventure with guides Nick and Leela.
