The tour really takes place well out of Doha. Maybe 50-60 minutes away, near an area of huge sand dunes. It was just my wife and I in the 4X4 and the driver picked us up at our hotel. I'm not sure if all the tours follow this agenda. First, we stopped at a lot for the camel ride. It's interesting but not a showstopper. Basically, we parked near a field with more than a dozen camels resting in the sand. We climbed aboard and road out into the sandy parking lot. It wasn't exceptionally picturesque but that's probably okay. Camels are a really slow way to travel and it would be a slog to ride them some place interesting. There are a few structures around the sand lot where the camels are resting and you have the option (paid) to hold a falcon. I've always loved falcons and it wasn't too expensive so I opted to do it. Then we headed out for the main draw--dune bashing. You're not really going to be leaping off the edges of dunes in a 4X4. But it's pretty cool what the drivers can do. They'll dive down steep slopes. And crest a knife edge dune and kick the truck around before it rolls. About 2/3 of the way through the drive, you stop to see the inland sea. It's interesting and a nice place to stretch your legs. The driver asked about sand boarding but the dune bashing was so much fun we opted to keep doing that. You have 5 min riding camel, but for me, it is more than enough, because sitting on camel is not comfortable at all. I don’t understand why local people can travel long days with camel. Driving on sand dunes like you riding roller coasters on sand, you need to have strong heart. One more thing , I think the tour company should let us provide reviews voluntarily instead of opening review and forcing us to write while we are in car. Without this review request then the tour is perfect. Anyway it is still worth 5 star tour. You should take it when visiting Doha.Saleem was our guide and we had a lot of fun. His driving skills were excellent as we maneuvered sideways and backwards down the huge dunes. My only negative was that we had no descriptions of what we were seeing from Doha to the dunes. Other than that, the day was a blast.
