Overview
A walk through the city of Zakynthos the capital of the island which the Venetians called ‘Fior di Levante’.
The church of St. Nicolas of the molos, located in Solomos square, is one of the few buildings in Venetian style that survived the earthquake in 1953. We will visit the museum and mausoleum of Solomos and Kalvos wich present local art handcrafts such as paintings of the 18th and 19th century, carved pottery, sculptures, ancient musical instruments, clothes and weapons of noble families.
We couldn’t skip the oldest mandolato (nougat) workshop in the city. The church of St. Dionysios, the patron saint of the island, imposes its presence. The bell tower is a landmark of the city as it stands out among the different buildings recognizable as soon as your enter the port.
We will walk along the busy pedestrian street, Alexandrou Roma, full of shops and small cafes where locals enjoy moments of everyday life.

On the ground floor of the museum is the mausoleum and hosts the bones of the National Greek Poet, Dionysios Solomos since 1968, as well as the bones of poet Andreas Kalvos and his wife.

This street preserved the characteristic arcades that existed pre-earthquake, and were imposed by the rainy climate and by the hot summer sun. A precious architertural part of Zakynthos.

Maria was excellent. She was very knowledgeable about the area having grown up there. Being a French teacher during the year and guide in the summer she was able to be informative while conformed the trip to our preferences and abilities. We had a fantastic day!!
