Please consider that the sun rises behind the platform during summertime (October to March) and from Poike volcano during the rest of the year. Also, there are more chances of unclear skies during wintertime.

Stop At: Ahu Tongariki, Easter Island Chile
Located opposite to Rano Raraku this is the largest platform from all of the reconstructed on the island. The ahu Tongariki is the most imposing moai platform on the island. This altar has fifteen visible standing statues overlooking the island with their backs to the Pacific Ocean.

I am glad I booked this tour. Our guide was absolutely wonderful and informative. Picked us up from our hotel and brought chairs and set up in front of the moai. He goes over their history and current significance to the island. Tea and coffee to sip on while you wait for the amazing sunrise. He went out of his way to help us see the best parts of the island and organized taxis for us despite the impossibly scarce cell service on the island. I encourage anyone who visits Rapa Nui to book at least one tour with Kava Kava Tours. Well worth your money and time.I originally booked this tour in 2019. It was rescheduled twice due to Covid. I originally booked this tour in 2019. It was rescheduled twice due to Covid. But it finally happened 2 and a half months after the Island finally reopened to tourists. Alejandra at Kava Kava kept in touch with me over the 3 years we waited. And I am so grateful. I couldn’t be more pleased with the welcome and the tours. Sebastian led us for two days of tours in which we saw the major sites in the Island. He is so knowledgeable. He explained everything so thoroughly and helped us understand fact vs fiction in the history of the giant Moai. We joked that we felt we had a university level course in Rapa Nui history and culture. It was fascinating. He is passionate about his Island, its culture, its history and its current situation. We had so much fun. He went the extra mile for us and I highly, highly recommend Kava Kava if you have the privilege and opportunity to visit this magical place.This experience is just mind blowing. Guides are the absolute best and explained so much about the history of the island and the culture which is so interesting and amazing.

Unfortunately if you don't have a professional camera you won't be able to capture the beauty of so many stars. The sunset is also amazing.
