We will view this from afar. Standing on the south shore of the Tidal Basin is the Jefferson Memorial, a tribute to Thomas Jefferson, the nation's third president and the main drafter of the Declaration of Independence. As you wander between the 56 granite pillars, each representing a U.S. state or territory, and the two triumphal arches, you'll be enveloped by the spirit of unity and sacrifice that defined a generation.

The tranquil waters of the central Rainbow Pool and the resonant sound of the Freedom Wall's 4, 048 gold stars (each signifying 100 American military deaths) offer a serene space to reflect.
