Stop At: Taormina, Taormina, Province of Messina, Sicily
Your personal tour leader will pick you up at your accommodation/port in Taormina area, and you will start your wonderful private travel to the highest active volcano in Europe. Driving by comfortable, air-conditioned car through the small authentic mountain villages, you will admire unforgettable picturesque views of Sicilian countryside full of oranges and lemon plantations, olives and almond trees, houses and churches built of lava stone. Enjoying amazing sea view and lava fields, you will arrive to a charming mountain town Zafferana Etnea, where you will visit local honey farm and taste the produce of the fertile volcano land - honey, olive oils, olives, wines and liquors. Then you will continue to drive up the volcano and reach the plateau Rifugio Sapienza at an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level. Here you can feel the exceptional atmosphere of Etna volcano, admire the lunar landscapes, see the famous Silvestri craters, visit small shops where you can buy souvenirs made of lava. Optionally, you can ascent with cable car and jeep with the authorized Alpine Guide until 3000mt for additional fee (65 Euro).
After this atmospheric journey, the guide will chauffer you in relax to one of the best wineries at the foot of Etna. The owner of the winery will welcome you with a glass of cool white grillo, and you will have a tour of the estate, see how the grape is growing, and visit the cellars, while the owner explains you all about the wine making process and the history of this family run winery. Then you will sit on a beautiful terrace with an amazing panoramic view of the Mediterranean, and have traditional delicious lunch of locally produced cheeses, salami, prosciuttto, home-made sausages, cous-cous, mushrooms, vegetables, fresh bread, olives and home-made olive oil. A professional sommelier will offer you 5 glasses of Sicilian Etna DOC red and white wines. After the tour, your guide will drop you off at your accommodation or port in Taormina area.

Though we just missed recent lava flow activity, our engaging and experienced Sicilian guide Roberto did an amazing job explaining the geology, geography, history and culture of the region. Interesting and fun. The tour ended at sunset with an incredible meal at the historic local Murgo Vineyard, where local Sicilian specialties were paired with various wine selections. Where do I begin? Our travel agent booked this through a third party app. Once booked it gave us a time that we would be picked up. All other plans were made around this time. Thank God Marco called the day before to confirm everything as the time they thought they were picking us up, was way off...
Where do I begin? Our travel agent booked this through a third party app. Once booked it gave us a time that we would be picked up. All other plans were made around this time. Thank God Marco called the day before to confirm everything as the time they thought they were picking us up, was way off. We had to adjust a few things, but they were so accommodating and helpful. Then, the day of pickup - of course we had a few issues, but Elena, our tour guide was so patient and helpful. When we finally started the tour all the stress we had gone through faded away and Elena showed us a fabulous time. We chatted about the history as we were driving through the small villages on our way to Etna. Then her excitement once we hit Etna was infectious! She offered to show us so many things! I will say, it is very COLD up there so bring clothing to keep you warm - no matter the time of year! Then we stopped by a local shop to taste honey, olive oils, wines, grappa, olives, etc. Needless to say, we stocked up on the delicious offerings. The last stop - the Winery. The food and wine were in abundance and delicious. It just so happened the owner of the winery gave us an intimate tour - we could not have asked for anything more special. Do not think twice about booking this group for the Etna and winery tour as it did not disappoint. They communicate and accommodate and provide service that is missing in todays world. Had a private tour with Elena as our guide. She was extremely knowledgeable and helped us navigate the mount etna site and bus tour. This was followed by a delicious lunch and wine tasting. Elena was a very friendly and lovely guide and a careful driver! A great day

We had the absolute best day on this tour, with our wonderful tour guide, Elena. The description of this experience honestly under-sells itself, as everything we did blew our expectations. Elena took my fiancé and I through the small villages, up to Mt. Etna, showing us underground tunnels and beautiful views along the way. We climbed Mt. Etna, visited local businesses, and ended the tour at a beautiful winery while receiving the absolute best service. We recommend this tour to anyone that wants to see an entirely different part of Sicily and be treated like royalty. It is a perfect day trip!!
